What should I pay for ghostwriting?

I'm going to be looking to hire a ghostwriter in the near future for an ebook. While I have a skeleton of it laid out, I'll be wanting someone who will fill in the blanks and make it look all nice and pretty.

What price range should I expect to pay for someone to do this?

    Most writers start out charging $10-$20/page for ebooks. Some may charge less if you have already created an outline and done a good deal of the research

    When you say "make it look all nice and pretty", what exactly are you referring to? The formatting/layout, or perhaps the graphics/ecover?

      I'm talking about the formatting/layout and filler, but will also be wanting the graphics later. I don't expect a good writer to also be a good graphic artist, altho it would certainly be a cool bonus

    A decent ghostwriter should be able to do that, and since you basically already have the structure and main points in place, I take it that additional research is not really required? If that's the case, I think about $10 per page would be a fair price to pay.

    What kind of blanks are they filling in?

    Imagine you're writing a book about sewing. If you list the types of needles you want covered in the chapter on needles, you can expect to pay significantly less than if you just say "Chapter 2: types of needles" and expect your writer to figure out which needles to cover.

    Similarly, if your writer actually knows something about sewing, it's likely to cost somewhat more than if you hire some random yahoo who just looks stuff up on Google and rewrites the blog posts and Wikipedia articles they find about your subject.

    I agree that around $10 per page is pretty fair, but it depends on how small you want the fonts and what kind of spacing you want. If you want something like 12 point Times New Roman at single spacing, you would have to pay more, obviously.

        That's true. I've seen people trying to pass off 18 point font with double spacing as a "page"!
