And I don't mind paying good $$$ for it.
Any suggestions?

I'm currently using a now outdated theme from Solostream (love their themes from a year or two ago but not their latest), but need a revamp. Must be customizable.

I like the Thesis magazine skin - Thesis Magazine Skin

Of course, you'd have to possess the Thesis theme and also buy this skin, but I think it looks great.

I recommend the Genesis Framework with the Lifestyle child theme. It's one of the standards as far as magazine style themes go.

If what you want is sexy and gorgeous check out Arthemia, there is a free version that is sexy and a paid version that is sexy and gorgeous.

Just Google Arthemia and you will find it.
