I have a couple of part time virtual assistants that do the boring 'leg work' like answer standard customer questions and post stuff on my websites. You can get them to do anything you want if you pay the going rate from developing sites to seo to running your support.

Try the usual places for what they can do and the rates to do so :-

    elance.com , rentacoder.com , getafreelancer.com , guru.com and odesk.com to name a few.

Elance.com, there are literally thousands of PA's on there many working for $2 an hour!

You'll probably have to try a few before you find a good one, but at $2 an hour you can afford to go through some to find someone really outstanding

I think most of us have Virtual Assistants, but if you are talking about someone "LIVE" in person and in your office, then a lot will depend on your needs.

Do you just need someone to keep all your files organized, or do you need someone with 'skills' like website design, content writing, SEO?

Obviously, the more skills your assistant needs to have to work for you, the more the price of his/her wage is going to increase.

If you need these skills, but have a small budget, you may want to think about hiring someone without them and then training them. This will allow you to keep the wage affordable for yourself, but give them added value in the training that they would recieve.

Add in a good 'bonus' or 'commission' structure, and minimum wage ceases to be a 'bond' that an unskilled worker feels chained to, and becomes a safety net within an opportunity to learn more marketable skills. A potential employee who cannot view it that way, probably isn't someone you want working for you anyway.

All that being said, HR is my weakest area of business. I suck at interviewing, probably because I hate it. That's why I have a VA. She was an online friend and a photshop expert (I'm not even 1% artistic, so that alone is one skill she possesses that I needed) and we struck up a deal. I became client number one, and helped her to get two more clients, and between the three of us, she's doing pretty well. Right after the New Year, I'll be helping her to secure a few more clients and take her business to the next level.

And if the day ever comes when I do need to hire someone for the office, I'll be sure to have my VA go through the interview and hiring process for me.
