What way would you make this ebook ?

Hi,

Im finishing off a 'free' ebook - designed for list building & was thinking that the pdf format is the way to go -

my question is - how can I add links to the contents page so that the reader can jump to the relevant section without wading through all the book ? what (cheap ) software could produce this for me ?

thanks all!

Dan

You don't need any software to add anchor links into your text - you just need to know the tool you are using for creating your product.

I am using OpenOffice and I can add any kind of links.
Actually, even M$ Word can do it.

      Thanks Istvan,

So I can just create a regular word document in openoffice for example, then create an index & then export it as a pdf document?

In both wordprocessors mentioned above you can create a "book" - then add index, table of content and many other things... and with the proper pdf converter/exporter you make it a pdf file and the links should work.

OO does it out of the box. Earlier Word versions didn't have the save as pdf option but the latest one has it. For earlier Word versions use one of the many available pdf printers/converters.

      Hi Dan

I use open office to do this. It is IMHO a little easier to use than word for the purpose of making chapter listings and links. It also does a great job of exporting as a pdf in a couple of clicks

    Dan,

This video will show you how to create the anchor links in OpenOffice

Creating hyperlinks or anchor text links in an OpenOffice Write document, so that you can link between pages and paragraphs in your document.

For some reason, by browser tried to tell me he page wans't safe, but it appears to be innocent. Don't know why it did that. It's not my video, just something I found in google.

You can create anchor links in OpenOffice for example..you don't need to do something hard. Also, you can export it as PDF with the anchor links and when the user clicks the link, the web browser will open and Voila!

    Good luck!

whilst we are on the subject...

I'm running MSO 2010 word. I embedded hyper links in my text to my site, but when I write it to pdf, the links don't work.

I'm using bullzip to convert to pdf.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

      Mucho gracias.
