Hi folks,

I would like a little advise on what people put on there pages and what you put on your posts? Do you get ranked for your pages or your post? A bit of advice would be great. I keep reading about page ranking but i have not seen anything saying about post ranking. Im trying to beat some page rank 2 sites in my niche. Thank you very much in advance.

  • I assume you're talking about Wordpress.
Pages and Posts are ranked the same way. It's just that pages stay in your menu structure and don't move unless you explicitly move them.
Posts, on the other hand, move off of your home page, and are findable via your archives, categories, or searches.
    So...
If you've got pages that are "About Us" and "Contact" and other things that you want people to see forever...and especially to have listed on your site's menu, then make pages.
For all of your up-to-date, late breaking content, use posts.
    Does that help?

  • Exactly as above. Its just the way they are linked to from your theme.

Basically I'll use pages for static things that I want visible from the entire site forever - like on my marketing blog most of my stuff is a post. For some SEO services that I sell, however, I will make a page for those as it makes them easier to find from other locations on the blog.

  • Pages are designed for information that is static and doesn't change.
Posts ping when they go up.
    Use posts.
  • I have been taking this PAGES not POSTS method. The principle of Pages not posts is that using a static home page for a wordpress blog and use the pages for most important content. Then, you could focus more on the internal structure of the site itself to get higher rankings on your important content.

Its quite different when you use rather than pages. The structure of the site was quite different. Hope this help!

    • Not really...

When you read about all that "love" search engines, supposedly, give to WP sites - it is about:
      - contant update = fresh content
      - well-structured HTML (unless the user screws it up with garbage code in posts)
      - seo-friendly content coding (e.g. proper use of headings etc.)

By using only Pages for your "most imporatnt content" you basically give up on the most valuable asset: informing update services about your new content.

Using a static Page as your home/front page doesn't mean all your content has to be on Pages. A clever combination of Pages and categories and posts can provide you with a lot of benefits for "internal structure".
