Business License and other legal jargon

One of my biggest mental obstacles when it comes to doing anything is a fear of accidentally committing a legal no-no. For example do you need a business license to sell your own stuff online? How about clickbank? Do most people have them or do most people just assume they won't "get caught" and go about life as usual.

Am I freaking out about nothing here?

    Yes, your freaking out over nothing. Everyone knows you shouldn't check out a lawyer and talk to them about this stuff. I mean besides... Everyone on the internet is a certified attorney and taking there advice for free will definately not cost you a lot of money or a cepena from your state.

    You need to contact an attorney about stuff like this. That is the safest way. As for having a business license, you can call your local town/state city hall and they will be able to tell you what you need.

    You want to do everything in legal ways...that's good and i recommend it.
    But you must not be afraid. If you screw it up, then repair and continue, nothing to be afraid of.
    About license and stuff like this, search on the internet or ask the appropriate people that can answer your questions.

    In my area, business licensing is $60 a year.

    So why freak out? It's $60. I pay it, I'm done, I don't need to freak out. If anyone ever knocks on my door and says "you need a business licence!" I'll just say "got one right here!" and they'll say "ooh, sorry to bother you, have a nice day."

    I have a business license, and in my area it was pretty cheap to get.

    I think it adds credibility to your offer if you're going to set up a professional clickbank product.

    I'm not sure if it's a necessity in this case, but it doesn't hurt to have one.

      I live in rural Arkansas - there are no licenses to file. I've been selling a physical product to this point, and out-of-state sales have no sales tax collection burden. I've been reporting as a Sole Proprietorship and doing just fine - my day job's withholding covers my side businesses too.

      Going forward, I'm moving to either digital fulfillment or affiliates/ad supported. For that, I'm actually planning on incorporating as an LLC, as I will have 2 partners. The LLC serves two purposes: it protects our individual assets from business liability, and it formalizes the business relationship so we don't have issues later with who gets what when it comes time to get paid.

      I recommend sitting down with a CPA. Most provide one consultation free, and that is more than enough to get comfortable with the financial requirements of running your business. Also, if you're a sole proprietor (or an LLC taxed as an SP), check out outright.com. I'm an affiliate fro them, and use it myself - they provide excellent financial tracking for very little, in terms of both cash and time.

    Actually when you run a an online business there is always a risk of getting sued...but that shouldn't stop you from taking action...specially when you make sure that you run your business in a legit way...
