If You Work with Clients...

...and need a good laugh, you have to see this video on You Tube. It's been around for a while, but I still laugh every time I see it...

Given it's been viewed more than 1.6 million times, I sure wish I'd created it!

This is so funny! It reminds me of some of the outrageous run-ins I've had with my offline clients in the past. One particular guy really sticks out - he was a real cheapskate, and refused to pay anything upfront for his website. His standard robotic response to me was, "If I go to Walmart and have my tires changed, I don't pay for it until after the work has been done!"

I was incredulous at his response, and after trying to reason with him a couple of times I had no choice but to fire him...lol!

I can watch it over and over and practically have the lines memorized. My absolute favorite though has to be "Cow."

Kind of reminds me of people who think there's no difference between a $2 article and a $150 or even $500 one.

I actually wrote a blog post about the video, which I guess I should have posted too, giving advice for avoiding this situation Compelling Marketing Blog ยป Are You a Taco Stand? .

This client simply could not be reasoned with, and you do occasionally come across people like that in the offline world. I just drop them like a hot potato now, and move on to the next person. No point wasting my breath in trying to argue with these people, in my experience no good ever comes out of it!

You're right. Walk away as fast as you can whenever someone doesn't understand what you do. He can't possibly be worth having as a client.

Oh I like that CD! Unfortunately, good responses like that I'd only think of AFTER the client was off the phone!

Yep, there's always crazy clients like that. One guy wanted me to do a free "trial" sales page that he would test against free samples from other writers. Yeah riiiight... I have no problem him testing my working against others, but I'm not doing it for free!

wow, amazing video, I agree, some individuals no matter what you try , its not worth dealing with them. If you have the opportunity to avoid these its best.

I agree, run like the wind if you see one of these types of clients! Because you can try to work something out, but in my experience, you still get screwed in the end somehow.

I love this!!! I just added several lines to use in my patter from now on.

"Look Mr. Prospect, a rump steak and a filet steak are both cow but they don't cost the same. If you're looking for a high quality service then this is the price"

"If you go out to a resteraunt for a meal, you don't ask the cook to show you how to cook the meal, that would be a seperate thing. If you want us to do your SEO this is the price. If you want us to teach you to do it in-house, then that will be a seperate thing"

I never have this problem. But then, I have a psychopathic flying monkey who relishes the opportunity to inflict pain. And he looks so cute and harmless. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!! He's pure evil. If you look closely, you can see that mad glint in his eyes. But don't look him in the eyes! That just invites a world of hurt. Best if you just move along.

Well, then it sounds like we all need to get psychopathic flying monkeys!

BTW, it's always the innocent-looking ones that are most evil. LOL
