Experienced Marketer But Still Learning Page Rank

I do the typical backlinks for my sites and clients. I have never worried about achieving my own page rank though. I know to get links from PR sites, but are there specific things to do to increase my own sites PR? Is this just a by product of getting links, pinging, bookmarking? All I ever think about is getting to first page of Google. Maybe that is enough.

yes this is just a byproduct of getting links by and large. However the links have to have some PR. So say you get enough links from pages that actually have a PR1 and above you will eventually increase your pagerank.

Don't worry about pagerank beyond the idea of getting high Pr Links. its more important to watch the Pr from the links you are getting than worrying what your own PR is. That will come and Google only updates the PR of a page in their tools every few months. In their own system PR is constantly being updated you just won't know until they update their public tools.

I firmly believe the FIRST and foremost thing Google looks at to determine a sites Page Rank is the sites content and how the sites navigation is structured.

Back links are secondary considerations if even that.

I can tell you that I have created sites and not done one ounce back linking at I have sites that have PR2-4.

Please don't by into the "You just need high PR back links to get your sites PR to increase" this is a complete myth.

Work on your sites content, make it relevant, make each page link to each other in a succinct manner and Google will reward your site with page rank.

Then start working on some back linking.

    Just my 2cents.
