What happens if you get spam complaints with single optin?

What exactly could happen if I get spam complaints with single optin?

Would my autoresponder account shut down?

Would I have to pay a fine?

Would I get sued?

thanks

It depends upon the policy of the third-party autoresponder
service provider and how flexible they are.

The problem with single opt-in is that you don't have a fully
traceable audit path for each subscriber.

You'll still get spam complaints from double opt-in subscribers
but you'll be able to go back to your third-party autoresponder
provider with prove that the people confirmed their opt-in.

With single opt-in, you can't do that - hence the increased
risk of having your account terminated for excessive spam
    complaints.

Most of my lists are double opt-in and I sleep better at night
knowing that my lists have greater protection if excessive
    spam complaints come up.

Treat your list right and it shouldn't be a major issue.

automateyourlist.com support told me that if I get too many complaints they would not allow me to do single optin anymore...so it seems they wouldnt be shutting down my account...

Shaun is right, I recently researched this issue for a client and the main problem is your AR service provider can shut down your account and it'll be much harder (if not impossible) to prove the complainer opted into your list. With confirmed opt-in, the records are right there in your database with the AR.

Seems like there was something else, but my notes don't seem to be on this computer. If I find it when I go upstairs I'll post it as well.
