You can also make a website dedicated to posting songs made by your friend. then you can use social media to contact managers of the music industry, and then send them back to your website.

you could use a multi-uploader site which will "spread the news" on multiple sites such as youtube or daily motion. through such a site you'll be able to upload the video with your friend on more than one place and at the same time; you could also search for sites which are designed to feature fresh new artists, i'm sure there's got to be such sites out there

First focus on getting a lot of videos on YouTube. If she's (or he) a good singer see will get noticed and get comments etc. You can make a small album or single and sell it on a wordpress site. You also want to do podcasts or sell the music at iTunes.

Stay away from twitter, facebook and myspace. You need to optimize your artist youtube channel first. Get subscribers etc. If people love your music they will eventually buy it.

Colbie Caillat used MySpace to launch herself. Her videos went viral and she ended up with a record deal after three months of posting her stuff. Justin Beiber uploaded videos of himself to YouTube and was discovered accidentally... producer was searching for somebody with a similar name.

Keep in mind that many bands spend tens of thousands of dollars to online marketers in hopes of becoming a viral phenomenon. It rarely happens.

When you are considering getting yourself out there on the net, it helps to have a full realization that one of the big deciding factors in a record contract is SALES. You can be very popular but you have to have the sales to back it up. The days when undiscovered talent was groomed to become a star are pretty much gone (or like winning the lottery).
These days if you get a record deal you almost have to provide a finished product and demonstrated sales to indicate you will make the label money.

Colbie may have gotten a deal with the help of Myspace popularity but lets not forget that her dad is a producer and produced one of Fleetwood Mac's albums.
Right there you have a lot of influence and power.

My daughter is a pop singer and her organic fan base is huge on many different social sites. She has also been featured at many of them including Windows Media Player and is currently a top artist on a big site.
She has worked with some big names. She has an incredible voice and she is beautiful.

We have learned quite a bit and the biggest thing I can tell you that will save you hours of time is don't chase the labels.

Don't waste time trying to "get discovered".

Instead spend your time building your fan base and making sales. And when you become so successful that you do not need the labels and you do not need to be "discovered", they will find you.

And that person was none other than Perry Como, one of the most popular recording artists of the 20th century.
