What is your keyword criteria?

I am currently creating a product in the gambling niche, specifically blackjack. Since google doesn't allow PPC for gambling products, I am really trying to target the best keywords possible for my article and video submissions.

I have seen some people say that they only go after keywords with X amount of searches per month and Y amount of results.

I am curious to know what people think is the best criteria for selecting key words.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the bump but does anybody know of any good threads that would be of help to me? I'm really stuck with my keyword research as I am new to article marketing and can't move forward with my writing until I can figure this out.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

You will find different people use different criteria.

    I generally use:

more than 500 EXACT searches a month
less than 100,000 exact competition (preferably less than 30,000 if you can)
    less than 2,000 allintitle

Once I have a keyword that fits that criteria I then look at the top 10 ranking sites in Google for they keywords and see how tough they are as competition. If they have heaps of backlinks and look too hard to beat then I won't us it. If they have minimal backlinks then I'll use it.

It's good too if there are sites like Ezine or hubpages in the top 10 - you can beat these

    For me,

1000 and above exact match monthly global searches.
    50,000 or below allintitle searches.

Thanks a lot, just what I was looking for. Which keyword tools do you prefer? I've heard of a bunch of different ones but always enjoy hearing as much advice as possible.
