Why are all selling sites the same?

One of the weirdest things I have noticed is that any page selling IM stuff doesn't have any information on the sides of the web page and the length of the page is usually half a book long. Why is this? Personally I think it makes the site look cheap and thrown together.

    One page one job. They want you to buy their stuff rather than get distracted and leave.

    They all do it because it's a sales page and they work. Don't reinvent the wheel

    The thin margin landing pages makes pages/letters seem long which gives an impression of value. More = better. Of course, this may not be true but I've tested it and the long landing pages versus one with wider margins convert 3%+ better.
