What Do You Think About Slide Show Video Articles?

Ok, I was just revisiting this post where the discussion was brought up about podcasts - but it was mentioned how some of those slide show videos are converted to MP3 as the slides can be somewhat boring.

So, my question/poll wants to know what you think about slideshow articles.

I'm not talking about ones that have pictures so much (though some of them do) - but ones that have the words plastered on the screen or have the words on the screen and someone is just talking the words.

While it might be good to add content to your sites for linking, etc - do you think that slideshow videos that just display the words of an article are spammy and useless? Do you think some of these video marketers are getting off too easy?

Jill, I see them as incredibly lazy. Even calling it a 'video article' is misleading. Just another helping of SEO pablum meant to manipulate search results without adding anything of value.

Would 'marketers' be dumping this stuff on YouTube if there were no SEO benefit? Meaning they had to rely on people actually watching the words scroll by as somebody stumbles through the text being so impressed they visited the site in the article?

My bet is no. It's like dumping crappy articles on the article directories for backlinks.

Booooorrrrinnng..... I mean who watches a video to see an article?

I used to actually make them myself then I realized that no one was going to sit through one to click to my site. Too much work for just a backlink.

I chose the third option, although I've never really thought about it. If they are done properly, I don't think they are useless because some of these videos are somewhat more entertaining than reading plain text on a web page. I mean, the person that reads the text out load can have a really motivating and exuberant voice that might just keep people interested enough at least to watch the whole video. Indeed, they are not worth the trouble in case someone intends to put a lot of work into, yet if they're easy to do, then it may not be such a bad idea...
