New Blog or Site: Where To Look For

Usually, before I start posting on my blog, I sit down with a pen and paper and decide the basic layout that the blog is going to have. This includes the text placement, and site structure, ad placement etc...

After that, I do a little para-by-para breakup of what my post is going to include. When I'm done with the notes, I just go over them once and start expanding on them to make my post.

Always helps!

Thanks

Thanks imkeintatan: Thats a good advice but I was asking about the SEO point of view. I mean it you have awesome contents and they are not listed or indexed etc than they are some how useless.. (That may not be the right word).

I hope you undertand what I am trying to say. I mean where should you sumbit your Blog or page.

Thanks

So your question is more about promotion than the blog itself?

Thanks for WF for letting me know that I am not a good communicator.
Sorry for not clarifying my point.

Ok make it this way.

1: I Got Domain.
2: I got Hosting
3: My site is up and running. DrA.com
4: There is no post yet.

Question: How would the SEO or World know that there is DrA.com. Do I need to Submit DrA.com to google and yahoo and other places. If yes: How, Where and What tools should I use.

I hope it's clear now.

Here are steps you could follow as starter.

  1. Submit your site to Google, link is Add your URL to Google

  2. Register your account on Google and join webmaster tools link is http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
Read webmaster tools FAQs and tutorials to start things.

  3. Join Google Analytics link is Google Analytics | Official Website
Read analytics FAQs and tutorials to start things.

  4. Same way submit site to yahoo and bing, make a search and you will find urls to submit a site also you will find free sites which submit your url to so many search engines free, try to find.

These are the basics which one has to do. Next things are submitting to your niche related directories, ranking sites, backlinkings, article submission.

  Thanks

Question: How would the SEO or World know that there is DrA.com.

so, who is this "SEO" person? You cannot let SEO to know about your site because SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization... and it's a process not 'somebody' to let them know

On the other hand, if you have an empty site (=no post yet) why on the earth would you want people to know about it?

@chrisscott: Very awesome. Thanks alot..

@Istvan Horvath: I just mentioned that as an example that the Blog is up but empty.
Some day I think there will be a post on that Blog. Isn't it good in advance to aware Google, Yahoo and Bing and your niche directories as suggested by chrisscott. So that when you make your post, they came to know immediately that there is a DrA.com and now got a post.

Install the all in one SEO plugin - and you will need to do some customization on it - as in add your keywords for your site.

If there is nothing on your site, then it really won't do much to force the site to get spidered sooner vs. later.

When you make that blog post, you can "ping" the site. You can bookmark the pages. You can link to the page you have created from another site. These things will tell the search engines something is going on at your site and some hungry spiders will be on their way soon.

Thats a great thread Dr.A.

You only want Google and the world to know about your blog when you have posted it. You also want to make your post properly. Search the forum for how to write a proper blog post, putting keywords in the title and using header tags etc. There are posts and threads that will give you a step by step process to follow when you get there.

If you have posts up already, then definitely submit your URL to Google, Bing, and Yahoo. If you don't already have an RSS feed for your posts, get one (FeedBurner is a good plugin for this), and then submit the RSS feed to as many RSS feed directories as you can. I try to use as many as possible, but three I always use, even if I don't have time to submit to any more, are Feedage, FeedAgg, and RSSMotron. You'll also want to make sure each post is SEO optimized for the keywords you're trying to target. You can do this with or without the All in One SEO pack, but I do recommend the All in One SEO pack, because it has a lot of SEO benefits to it. Finally, submit your URL to Google's Webmaster tools.

Those are the basic promotional things I do when starting any new blog (and I start several every week, so this is a procedure I'm using regularly and seeing results from). Doing these things, pages on my blogs get indexed very quickly, usually within a few days, especially if I've done good keyword research ahead of time.

It looks like you may have already found your answer but if not this may help...

Once you have your blog ready to be shown to the world...content, plugins..etc

Sign into your blogs dashboard then click settings on the left side (all the way at the bottom), then click writing and scroll to the bottom of that page where it says "Update Services". In that box you will typically see one site listed. Copy and paste the list below into that box then click save changes and your done. This list SHOULD get your site indexed much quicker than normal...hope that helps

Thanks

^^ Sorry, nobody should use this list: it is full of duplicate links and it is absolutely useless to ping so many services. The good ones will ping a bunch of other services, too - which means you end up with multiple, multiple pings.... until you get banned.

Yous should NOT give such a bad advice to newbies!

(Search the forums and you will find out that 3-4 services are enough.)

There's a plug-in I use on all my WordPress sites that I would recommend, it's called "PC Search Engine Verify" - what it does is help you register your sites with Google, Yahoo and Bing, including placing the codes on your site that they all require. It places the codes for you on your site - and if you're not very techy, that's a huge help.

My take on when to get spidered by search engines -- you DO NOT want the search engines to pick up your site until you have a couple of posts on it. Adding a vide or two will help your ranking. And don't forget to put in a "Privacy Policies" - "Terms of Service" - and "Contact" page or pages, Google really wants to see those, it'll help you ranking a lot. Once you get these things on your site, then ping and bookmark and get the search engines to spider your site. If you are spidered when the site is basically empty, your site will be ranked so poorly that it will take you forever to get it up into the top pages. I always use the "Google XML Sitemaps" plugin on my sites, and I make sure to not activate it until I have the site ready to be spidered. Twice I forgot and was spidered before the site was ready, and I never did find my sites in Google, think I went 23 pages deep before giving up on one site, and about as much for the other. Did a ton of work for nothing.

I do know that Istvan is very knowlegeable and do not wish to get into an arguement, especially over something like this.

Having said that, I do feel in this particular case that my poistion is well supported by the fact that several WF members are using this list and have not had any problems with getting banned. In fact a list very similar to the one I posted is being used in a very popular (and results producing) coaching program offered here on the WF by a well known and well respected member.

As I said, I know Istvan is very respected as well but in this case I simply don't agree with him.

@Rsberg: As I said above although I am novice and have no idea but there are many experts who uses different techniques or tactics and when some one is successful he considers his technique the best.

So I guess newbee like me should either practice on all and see the results or stick to one technique. This experiment can be performed on a free wordpress.com but the problem will be whether any technique last for long. e.g: If I go either with your method or some one else as explained above and see the results are good and then start with a real blog and after a while the Search Engines find me fooling them or find things that are not done correct, then my page or ranking gone.

I respect everyone view point in here as everyone has already experimented and the method they showed me in here worked for them and they are hopeful that it will work for me and other newbees as well and they are sharing with me there best and honest experience.

Dr A,

I by no means think I am an expert, quite the contrary actually. In fact, when it comes to 99% of things I would most likely defer to someone like Istvan and their knowlege base over mine. I simply wanted to clarify that in this particular case that I did not agree with him.

Also, by no means did I intend to try to tell you he was wrong or that you should'nt listen to him...not at all. If it came across that way it certainly wasnt meant to.

I only wanted to try to offer you some help based off of my own experiences and the experiences that I know others have had with that approach. As you said, there are several different ways to accomplish the end result.

I wish you the best of luck!
Robert

1: is the first step before posting your first post.

Pretty much assuming you already did niche research and such... Get rid of all the posts and pages. Install some Plugins such as all in one SEO and others depending on what I intend to do with the site.

2: are the first things that you need to do for your Blog.
I mean where to submit your Blog or Page and index etc.

I won't submit it or build any links until I have some content up, but once that is done I will write articles, do some directory links, profile links, etc at this point.

3: to submit or index your Blog.
Articles at Ezine Articles for this. Though I can often get things indexed using other properties I own.

4: are the specific tools that can do it for you automatically.
I use bookmarking Demon, post article robot, rss bot, directory bot. I would simply stick with the bot series from incansoft for all of this if you have not invested already. I owned bookmarking demon and post article robot before learning about social bot and article bot.

Thanks for your step-by-step tip. I would love to hear and read more people posting up these tips on how they would submit these steps to help fellow newbies in setting up their blog.

But i have a question, in part 2, you said something about having content first. If you dont mind can you elaborate more on that? Content meaning the articles i'm going to post on or?

Yeah, content is the articles or reviews on your site. Usually focused around a keyword (or a small group of them). This way you know which pages need which anchor text to be able to rank at its best.
