Don't Broadcast To Your List On A Sunday.

A bit tongue in cheek this post, because I think it is perfectly fine to email your list on a sunday.
I recently started a campaign with my subscribers called Freebie sunday.
It is what it says. Every sunday I email my list with a free product.

Had one person unsubscribe this week. His reason Sundays are my personal space days. I spend it with my family and do not want anyone emailing me.

I kind of thought why not open it tomorrow then. LOL

It just shows that you can not keep everyone happy.

I'm just wondering what his e-mail inbox had to do with his free space and time with his family...

When I go and spend time with my family, I feel pretty far away from my e-mail account!

LOL.. it's really hilarious. I think the person who unsubscribed gets email alerts on his phone or something.

Sorry, folks I just can't resist:
Everybody on earth dies and goes to heaven. God comes and
says "I want the men to make two lines. One line for the
men that dominated their women on earth and the other line
for the men that were dominated by their women. Also, I
want all the women to go with St Peter." Said and done, the next time God looked the women are gone
and there are two lines. The line of the men that were
dominated by their women was 100 miles long, and in the
line of men that dominated their women, there was only
      one man.
God got mad and said, "You men should be ashamed of your-
selves. I created you in my image and you were all
whipped by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons
that stood up and made me proud. Learn from him! Tell
them my son, how did you manage to be the only one in
      this line?
The man replied, "I don't know, my wife told me to stand
      here".

I wouldn't base everything on that one guy's response. Some people email me about weird (usually stupid) stuff regarding my sites.

Maybe you could test different days and see if you get a better response rates.

Logically, I'd think that because people usually do the coupon clipping thing on Sundays that they'd be inclined to wanting offers or deals too.

But... Sunday is a religious or personal day for some people. It might feel intrusive to get a pitchy email.

Thats the whole point it's not pitchy in any way. It is Freebie Sunday. It's a gift! Open it tomorrow for goodness sake.
The reason I started this thread was just for the laugh really. Its funny because the guy had to be looking at his emails on sunday to realise that I had sent one to him.

Ross, look forward to chatting to you soon my friend.

      Giving on Sunday...no opt in.

      I like that.

I personally do not like to work on Sunday because it is a day of rest for me., but the customer has it confused...it is on them.

That said...I like the idea of being really generous on Sunday without the expectation of anything in return.

It could be the day to share something really cool from your life with your list that is not related to sales. Now that I have done on a Sunday and it was well received.

Depending on what you believe (I am a Christian) Sunday represents a celebration of one who came to identify with us (mankind); perhaps, you could write an email identifying with the needs and problems with those on your list. Of course, that will work to your benefit later.

Oh heavens. People like to complain about anything.

Don't mail on sunday. I didn't like the product so you are now promoting garbage it seems. I didn't like that pop up on your site. I hate sales letters....

And the list goes on and on...

I totally agree. I don't have a list yet, but I think it's best to just send emails to your list during the week.

      Why?

If you don't have a list - you really don't know what the best day to mail for you is.

Sunday's may or may not be a good day.

    Hi Andy,
I am so glad you posted this thread! And, I'm equally grateful to read everyone's responses... I'm personally new to building an email list (even though I've had commercial websites for over 3 years). I've avoided it completely until just about a month ago!

The thought of people unsubscribing was bugging me a little - but, reading this thread has made me feel MUCH better about it. You are absolutely right: We just won't be able to please everyone.

But, what really made me feel better about the idea of people unsubscribing, is that no one here seems to be taking it personally. And that concept is important for me to understand - it's not necessarily "about me" if someone unsubscribes.

And, of course, there is always the chuckle that we can derive out of it - such as the obvious, which you guys all pointed out above - "why not just ignore the computer entirely on a 'day with the family' and just go through the emails another day?"

Thanks so much for the levity, and for helping a newbie like me keep the fun in it!
    Have a great weekend everyone!

That's insane! I save up all my emails UNTIL Sunday, then spend the entire day just reading and laughing and reading and sometimes crying and well, you get the idea.

What's that? I need a life. Well, that was rude!

Nah.. the way I see it, that person was either two things. One, he was just looking for some reason to unsubscribe from your list. Or two, he had no common sense.

Yeah, I do respect Sunday, a day of rest or a day value or a day of leisure. And, even though I do get emails on sunday, even very important ones, I would not know, not until the day after.

You're right, why can't he open the email the day after? Or, in the first place, why was he on his computer if he wants to spend the day with his family?

That just prove that there are inconsiderate or short-minded people out there. Yeah, you can't just please anyone, especially if people tend to misunderstood you.

Well at least, you're the one that's laughing. By now, he should be still pondering on the fact that someone email him on a sunday. looool
