Need help with local business IM

What would you guys use for IM for a local business? I have a website built and online, but it's nothing special at all. I'm desperate for ideas.

    I suggest you look through the Offline Marketing section of this forum. It'll provide you with anything you need to know about offline marketing (duh right?)

    Some things I can leave you with:

    -Seo
    -Setting up autoresponders
    -Setting up their site
    -Facebook Fan page
    -Twitter
    -Articles
    -Videos


    ... the list goes on and on

      But I'm trying to concentrate on online marketing of the business. Obviously offline marketing will be a bigger part since it's a local business, but at this point i'm trying to get into the online market. There's very good reasoning behind that (at least in my head) but I won't get too into it right now lol.

        Assuming its the site in your sig, the first thing I would do is get rid of the Google ads - it makes your site look like a generic marketing site, not a serious site for a serious local business.

        Make the home page much more "in your face" - maybe list your services there, in the sidebar where the Google ads are currently.

        Then do some keyword research. Which terms are people using when they are searching for a plumber in your area?

        Add yourself to Google Places, if you haven't already done so.

        I would also add a photo of you and your van/truck - it makes the site look more personal.

        This isn't an IM site - it's a local business site - your business.

        If you want to sell online via the site, then you can add a shop to it when the site starts getting visitors.

    What do you mean by what would we use?

    Whatever your Internet marketing skills are, offer them to local businesses in the form of packaged deals. SEO is a good one, because businesses like the idea of being high up in the ranks on Google.

    To local businesses I currently offer web design, SEO packages, SEO consultancy, and as of recently mobile web design.

    A lot of the stuff that IMers are selling for peanuts can be sold for quite a lot of money to local businesses.

    The first thing I want to make sure about ranking a local business site in Google is to host the site in the local server.

    For instance, if you have a local business in UK you would not want your site to be hosted on a US server. When your local prospects searches for your product/services in Google.co.uk, the UK sites will rank on the first page of Google SERPs.
