Hostgator Is Down

I noticed about two hours ago that all my sites were down. I finally called my host which is hostgator, and they said they are installing new software, and their whole system will be down for at least another hour. That's three hours total.

Has anyone ever run into this before? I never have. They made it sound routine. I told them that some of my sites have ppc campaigns running, and other sites make routine sales from search engine traffic. They gave me the OH Well Attitude.

Does this sound normal? Glenn

  • In the 6 months that I have been using them, I have never noticed any down time.

    All my sites are up and running as I type this....

    • They have been doing server upgrades for the last month. It's a planned event and they post a notice of it in the forum.

  • I've been with Hostgator for a couple of years now and the reason I've stayed is because I've never, ever had any problems at all with them. My previous 2 or 3 hosting companies were 'the nightmare'
  • What is the up time they guarantee?
  • My site is up as I talk. I have only just started with them and just have the one site so far.
  • Not sure, but all my clients have used them for quite some time and I finally switched a few months back. I am very happy with them.

  • This was a planned maintenance update. They sent an email a few days back alerting us to this and it is mentioned on their support forum.

    It is a good thing and they put a "routine maintenance" page on all sites while they were down. That is much better than just a 404 page not found outage.

    I have been with HG for a long time and outages is not a common thing with them. I love their service and quality.

    All my sites are now back up.
