I need some advice-blog related-What does this mean?

Hey guys,

I have a quick question. I'm not sure if this means anything and if those 2 items are related but it's been bugging me and I need to ask.

I have been blogging for almost a year now. During this time, I've managed to build a pretty good readership on my blog. I've had people comment on it and interact with me via comments.

However, for about 3 weeks now, my blog has been getting more pingbacks. Those pingbacks come from niche related sites. These sites are those automated posting sites where they pull content from other sites and pingback to the original site.

During the same time, I noticed that my comments from my readers dropped as well.

Do you think this is related in any way? Do you think the increase in pingbacks has resulted in decrease in my user comments? Are they seeing the pingback as a spam thing?

Any help will be greatly aprpeciated. Thanks.

Peter

It seems to make sense to me that pingbacks from automated sites might be perceived as SPAMMY by visitors and they'd be less inclined to want to comment. But that's just my opinion without any specific experience to back it up.

I don't think it's a problem. My blogs get lots of pingbacks, but the user comments thing is fluctuating always in my blogs.. I wouldn't worry much about it.

I doubt that there is a relationship between the two. Comment activity tends to ebb and flow for various reasons.

On the trackbacks from autogenerated sites, don't worry about this if they're just doing an excerpt, such as what's available in Google Blogsearch, and linking back to your site properly. This works to your advantage by giving your site links with good contextual anchors.

If you don't want the trackbacks showing up in your comments, just turn them off in the discussion settings or in individual posts. I'd also recommend moderating all comments by first time commentators, especially if you want to keep trackbacks. This is what I do. This allows you to block trackbacks you don't want while keeping those from your blogging friends.

    Thanks for your feedback guys.

In regards to the pingbacks, do you think that its good for my SEO to get pingbacks from these types of sites? I know that pingback is a pingback but from an auto generated site? What do you think about that?
