What is the best wordpress plugin for a paid membership site?

Hello, everyone.

I'll be transitioning my website to a paid subscription service in the next few months, and I'm wondering what is the best Wordspress Plugin to do this?

My current plugin supports subscriptions and has a good autoresponder, but it does not integrate PayPal.

What's the best subscription plugin that supports PayPal?

Thanks!

-Tim

Wishlist here also. I tried MagicMember, DAP and MicroMembership and finally settled with Wishlist Member.

    memberwing and wishlist,

I have a marketing friend that has a new one coming out soon, and i was very impressed with it. Insanely good for managing all areas without the mess and fuss.

The problem is that too many marketers get excited, set it all up and they find it a hassle and find it too tedious to manage, update and look after their clients. That is so silly, as membership sites are the easiest ways to make lots of money online, especially if you have 12+ weeks or good solid content to give to your members.

But you need to back that up with a site / software that will not let you down, and I see it happen far too often. So make sure you do alot of investigation before you sink you teeth into all of this. Draw up a list of the pros and cons of each membership site software you are looking at getting, and see if it matches up with your goals, desires and needs with your members. Otherwise you will get caught with your pants down and fail miserably.

Has anyone had experience with S2member? I found it in a review but have not taken the time to fully implement. Do the others have a faster/shorter learning curve?

    Thanks,

I have used s2 member and think it has lots of good features, it does involve a little learning curve to get the most from it. Be careful to watch that it doesn't conflict with other plugins on your site. I like it and it does integrate with paypal at various levels (0-5) all the way from free to paid memberships.

        I agree with your comments.

It is a superb plugin and although it took some time to set it up it works perfectly and none of my members have had any issues with it.

It is laden with great features and it's hard to believe it is free.

I haven't experienced it conflicting with any of my plug-ins though...touch wood

I see Wishlist has had a new version out recently with lots of new features that look interesting. I am also probably going to go for Wishlist, but you need to really compare the features carefully and try to find some objective reviews (difficult!) You can also watch the videos they have on the sales page and try to think about how all that would work with your site.

If you are worried about your articles not being unique, then you could
use a WordPress Plugin I use called WPUnique , this will 'spin' the article
or Private Label Article and make it unique and primed for Search Engines ? .
And, wp policies ( I use the 'import' feature at the bottom to upload all pages and then I edit those that I feel need it). has about 10 or so pages that supposedly help with Google.

I know I now work for the opposition, but I've never got what the great appeal with WishList is. There are much more full featured, better supported and cheaper options around, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

I'd carefully look into what you need from your plugin and shop around. For example, if you're the sort of person that needs stunning interface and walkthrough video tutorials, something like MM may be the way to go. If you want something aimed at developers who need an extensible and configurable system with technical backup aimed at coders, we'd be much more up your street.

Emember is another, it integtrates with store and affiliate plugins from the same company as well. You can get all three in a bundle for about $80.

For free, s2member is the one to try.

Wow. I didn't expect this many replies, but this is a crucial aspect of any membership site. So I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Does anyone have any bad experiences or strong criticisms of any of these plugins or services?

Currently using Digital Access Pass. There is some learning curve though. But overall, it's good.

It works well with Paypal and clickbank and even have it's own affiliate program.

    @culpetm,

Do check out http://DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) when you get a chance. You would be doing yourself a dis-service by not even considering DAP in your research.

We have all the features you need, and also some you probably won't need right away, but will eventually :-)

Disclosure: I'm the founder/co-developer of DAP.

    Cheers!

There are some good tips in here. That will keep of you off the streets and busy over the holiday.

I think the best piece of advice as having several large and small websites that are membership based is that you need to plan, and decide on many things. You will find that some of the paid membership plugins / software is not what you need. Yes...

depending on what you want to do, you need to have something that will cater to your needs and not muddle you round. Like amember, a great tool i use it. But to a newbie they would be in there for days trying to learn the ropes. So what I am saying is just be careful.

I remember john posting he was making money and all he spent was $15 on a blog membership site. I urge all people looking to start their own membership site to read this thread.... ==> http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...blueprint.html very simple but clever ideas.

No, DAP is definitely not free, unless you count $167 as free

You CAN get it free, if you sign up for their payment processor at the same time, something like that.

DAP is certainly not free, like @PPPPaul and @markowe noted :-) . At the time of writing this, DAP costs $167 for a 1-site license, or $297 for an Unlimited-site license (of course, for the current pricing, better to always check our web site ).

      There are NO "backend charges".

When you purchase DAP, what you get a "lifetime license". You never ever have to pay us a penny ever again to keep using DAP.

And you get 1 full year of free support and upgrades.

      Hope this helps.

There is however a way to get DAP for free (involves buying something else though). Click here for details.
