Help with Hiring from Philippines...

I'm. Hiring someone from the Philippines to do SEO for me and was wondering if I should have a hiring agreement.

An if I should what are some things to include in it?

you should go through elance.com, set up an account, then create your job "seo specialist needed" post it up, then start inviting vendors, they will give you quotes. you can put your money in escrow with elance, then when milestones, deadlines, etc are reached you release the funds. its a wonderful thing. ive had great success with elance for many things. haven't needed seo yet, but i will soon.

Of course you've got to have a hiring agreement or else you might risk complications along the way. In the hiring agreement, you need to set up some limits and boundaries and to highlight all the "must-haves" related to the work of your future employee. Things like the amount of work, deadlines, certain rules and guidelines, all these can be a part of the agreement. If you lack such a thing, your employee might eventually say things like: oh you didn't tell me to...or, oh I forgot to...that sort of thing. So, make sure you write all the details in there.

I hire my outsourcers via odesk......they deal with all the agreements.....

    Less hassle for me!

It's best if you hire someone through oDesk. That way you don't have to worry about such things as a hiring agreement.

You can simply pay them according to the work hours, which they log themselves in this work diary system that oDesk provides.

      vworker.com is also good

If you have already found your Philippine worker direct them to one of the mentioned sites and perform all transactions there.

if you go the vworker way be aware that the job/transaction costs fall on the worker, so you might want to cover that for them.

Agreements and contracts are pretty much pointless, even if you hire someone through a project manager. Just trying to save you some time.

Hire someone, if the work sucks and they don't perform to reasonable expectations, don't pay them and hire someone else.

Just make sure you send them a couple reports and "how to" guides on exactly what you want done. Many outsourcers define "SEO" as going to a couple forums and yahoo answers and spamming to get traffic.

I hate to quote this as it gets twice as much exposure, but that is just horrible advice. Put together an agreement, even if it is just an email saying I will pay you $x every hour/week/month via paypal/xoom based on you doing the tasks you are instructed and trained to do. Put the first few pay periods close together, a week, a couple of days, whatever. Then if they try and their work is not good enough, PAY THEM, and tell them it is not working out and that you are dissolving the agreement. If they suck, you probably either, did a bad job hiring, or a bad job communicating what you wanted. Don't compound it by being a jerk and not paying.

All the services elance, odesk, onlinejobs.ph have agreements, realistically you are working across international lines and your chances of recovering any damages are pretty slim, as are your chances of getting sued by a disgruntled ex-employee.

i suggest you open up an account with odesk or elance. there are lists of contractors, or if you post job many will apply. Agreements with offshore employee is useless, just be wise in hiring the right candidate for your SEO job

I've never used contracts with any of my international outsourcers. I do let them know they are on probationary status for the first 2 months though so if they don't work out I let them go and try again.

I agree, it's better to hire through freelancing sites like odesk than to transact with someone directly. The sites charge minimal fees but you are better protected and you have access to a number of contractors from the Philippines and other countries. The hiring process is quite simple too. Legal agreements are optional, though.

Go throught any freelance website like elance, guru, odesk, scriptlance etc. they all have agreement anyway.. so you do not need any agreement on ur behalf i guess..

I approach this in a completely different way. When I hire in the Philippines, I hire people on full-time and I do give them a written agreement with my "guidelines" and expectations. The people that work for me are full-time and they consider themselves trusted members of my team and I treat them as such.

They do know that if they break that trust, they'll be let go - I fired someone yesterday. The reason I don't use odesk or any of the other services is because you are essentially getting workers that will do piecemeal work for you and then move on - for the most part. There are exceptions.

If I invest time (which is $) to train someone to do something and they do it well, I'd like to keep 'em and not have them constantly exposed to a barrage of other work offers. So far this works for me. The more trust and respect I give to my team, the more I get back and the harder they seem to work for me.

I dont think you need to make an additional agreement if you hire in Odesk. But you can always give a note that you have to keep everything he/she does for you private. If you hire through Odesk the job will be under Odesk terms and policies will be equal to the hiring agreement you want.
