Affiliate system: proprietary or outsourced ?

Hi folks,

Here's my situation: I own a community which receives some decent traffic and I plan to sell a service to its members (or visitors). This would be a high-quality service with a high selling price (between 500 and 800 dollars).
Nothing to do with junk products/services that are found on Clickbank ...

Now here's my question: would you advise me to outsource an affiliate system or develop one myself ?

Besides the technology (which is important, of course) what would an outsourced solution (e.g. ClickBank, CJ etc ...) would bring me that a proprietary solution would not ? Do you believe that, ultimately, I would really get more people selling my product by selling it through such a platform ? What are the parameters I should be aware of ? Which typology of products for outsourced solutions ?

Thank you everyone for your invaluable help on this issue.

J.

Why do you want to reinvent the wheel? There are lots of scripts that track affiliate sales. Some are self-hosted, some are a monthly subscription, some are complicated, some simple. Seems like you could find one that would fit with your needs without going to the cost and effort of building a custom solution.

Have to agree with Cindybidar! Do not reinvent the wheel!

If the service is a high ticket one you could use something like 2checkout who have an inbuilt affiliate system.

But do not go creating your own affiliate management system......it would be too troublesome in the long run!
