WordPress for Membership Sites?

Hey all,

I've been trying to put a membership site together recently, and decided to do it through Wordpress, as I've seen it to be a reliable platform.

But, with the incredible volume of plugins out there, I'm unsure as to how I go about actually CREATING that membership site.

So, does anyone know of some good plug-ins they can recommend that accomplish the aims of a membership site?

Thanks!

P.S. I've been combing the internet for the last several hours (still am) to try to find answers. So far nothing much has come up, hoping I can get some educated tips here.

    Hey Vince

Man, I am starting to sound like a broken record :-) but the best program out there for running a membership site with WordPress is Digital Access Pass (DAP)

It will allow you to run a fully featured membership site inside of WordPress including true drip technology, affiliate program, one-time offers, one click upsell's and much more.

It truly has everything you need to run a membership from WordPress. Man you would think that I own the plug-in or something as much I plug the darn thing. But, it has done wonders for my business. I use it on every single one of my membership sites and it truly rocks.

    Talk soon,

    Shannon Herod

Looked at everything and then some.

Went with DAP for Ease of use; one time fee; can use on multiple sites and the support has been amazing!

      Good Luck with your choice!

Depends what type of membership site you mean specifically. For a bog-standard, signup and read protected content, the free plugin s2member is very good.

Can someone please list the additional components one needs to complete DAP or WishList? These two seem to be the two I hear about most.

For example, you don't just "get wishlist or dap" and go. You also have to pay 1shoppingcart $99/month so that you can get access to recurring billing and then link them all together. Do you also have to get amember to manage levels?

Do you also have to get aWeber to compensate for 1shoppingcarts woefully lacking email delivery?

Is there anything else out there, even paypal, that will replace the need for 1shoppingcart?

Are there any additional pieces to the puzzle I'll need to prepare for such as SSL, static ip's?

Will I need a programmer that is already familiar with either of these or can anyone with php knowledge jump in in a heartbeat?

      Thanks in advance.

        @lerxtjr,

DAP comes built-in with a shopping cart, autoresponders, and affiliate module. It also has built-in content protection if you're hosting your files on the same site. Or you can get our Amazon S3 script (s3mediavault.com) which will help you protect videos and other media stored on Amazon S3.

So when you get DAP, you don't need anything else - except a way to process payments - like Paypal standard, or a merchant account, or a e-junkie or CB account, for example. BYOPP -Bring Your Own Payment Processor - and DAP will pretty much take care of the rest.

If you use your own merchant account, and want to accept credit card payments on your own site without your buyer ever having to leave your web site, then yes, you need SSL. Even a shared SSL will work - don't need to have static IP's even.

If you have your own VPS or Dedicated server, then you don't even need to worry about delivery rates. DAP can send out autoresponder and broadcast emails from your server itself, and your delivery rates will be very high, and very close to the numbers promised by dedicated ESP's like Aweber.

So in a nutshell, if you have DAP...
        • You DO NOT need 1Shoppingcart
        • You DO NOT need Aweber
        • You DO NOT need a third-party Affiliate Script or Service
        • You DO NOT need a VPS or Dedicated server - DAP works on thousands of sites on basic, cheap, shared hosting like Hostgator or Dreamhost
        • You DO NOT need a static IP
        • You DO NOT need dedicated SSL cert - shared cert is just fine
        • You DO NOT need a programmer or techie. Just have some basic understanding of how web sites and WordPress works
        • You MUST NOT be a rank noob that thinks "FTP" is just another bad "F" word :-)
NOTE: You MAY need SSL (to accept payments right within your site using the DAP shopping cart/upsell-tree plugins.

        Hope this helps.

Personally I use WishList for my member sites. I have a buddy that uses amember and talks good about it too.

I have ConstantContact as my email, autoresponder service and use Paypal, 2Checkout, and Clickbank as my processors. I have a number of hosting accounts with different providers. This is mainly because of my autoblogging setup and a few accounts I wanted separate from everything else. But for the person starting out I would recommend Hostgator.

I have several membership sites that bring in thousands....I use blogs memberwing, wishlist, easymemberpro...

but yes my favourite is amember. ONce you know how to use it, its awesome.

You have to know what you are doing but I have techs, that I outsource to get it set up. Even graphics, drip feeds, programming and the extra bits that I need for my membership.

Then I can sort out the market side of things.

At the moment the amember is the best way to use my funnel.

      $1 trial > $39 p/moth > VIP video (amember intergration) > lifetime subsciption > VIP coaching

amember handles it all, but if you dont know what you are doing, you are in for a rough trot and will be staring at the computer screen not knowing what to do?

I've used aMember for years but for the wordpress, DAP seems to be a good choice. But it's expensive one time payment.
