Can someone help with a WP Theme Layout?

10 replies
Hi Folks,

I'm stumped! I have a WordPress Blog that I'm trying to set up at:
gerefrigeratormodel.com

The problem I'm having is with the right sidebar being way down in the post as opposed to the top.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Your help will be appreciated.

    Have you played around with the theme options? If yea, then use a different theme. Did you choose this theme for a specific reason?

    Usually that happens when you either have a missing </div> or an extra </div> tag.

    yep if you edited one of the layout files you may have deleted a tag. hard to tell without admin access, but it would be easy to reinstall the same theme and see if it fixes the problem.

    otherwise, yea there are tons of free themes available.

    Look at your stylesheet (the file that ends with .css)

    Try to diminish the #sidebar width to 300px or increase the #container to 1020px

    ..judging from the original theme's preview; either your download got corrupted or something went wrong during the upload.

    Either way; you should either download it again or upload it to your WP install again... or both.

    Without even looking at the website I will tell you what is the cause of such layout error in 99.99% of the cases:
    Either in the content area or in the sidebar area you have an element (could be image, long link, div, anything) that is wider than the div in which is placed.

    E.g. having a 200px wide image in a 199px wide sidebar.

      This happened to me the other day so check your refrigerator image in the sidebar, reduce the width of it and see if that helps. My image was just a little bit too wide and it resulted in the sidebar going down the bottom, I reduced the width a little and it fixed the problem.

    The theme has poor SEO, you might wan't to look for a better alternative.

    Image sizes breaking the layout of a theme is the sign or a sloppy amateur designer. It's an easy fix.

    The fix for your problem: Go into the css file and change the width of your sidebar from 325px to 300px and watch the magic happen.

    #sidebar {
    background: url(images/sidebar.png) no-repeat 0 0;
    width: 325px;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    float: right;
    text-align: left;
    min-height: 600px;
    height: auto !important;
    height: 600px;
    font-size: 13px;
    }
    Changing that should do the trick. Might need to play with the numbers to get the right fit.
