In case you didn't know it yet, this is Zuckenberg's next move:

Mark Zuckerberg announced new email service from Facebook | Web Hosting Domain Names Webmaster Forum SEM SEO Blogs Temi

Is Go(ogle)liath really afraid ? They've just increased the wages of their employees by 10% last week - so they stop bleeding human resources to Facebook.

Yes Google do fear Facebook as a major competitor.

    Why wouldn't they?

Did anyone ever think that Yahoo would be beaten by google? Did anyone ever thing Facebook would practically alienate MySpace?

It's about time Google faced a little competition

I doubt if google is shaking at all. Why would they?
The whole notion of google somehow quaking is laughable.

Facebook is not doing a tradtional email. The word "email"
should not even be used in describing what they are doing.
People need to actually read what the new "messaging" service
      actually will be.

In fact, do we need yet another messaging service? If this was not
facebook doing it, it wouldn't get any ink at all.

I am open with this possibilities, but I encourage everyone to be as keen observer for the new facebook updates... The facebook owner is getting richer each day with the ads on facebook itself...

It'll be interesting to see if Facebook introduces paid text ads within their emails, just like Google does with gmail. My guess is that it'll only be a matter of time.

Yes it will be a messaging service rather a typical email service as what I've read about it by Googling.

I haven't read full features of it so can't comment much but one thing is for sure that it will threaten so many email services.

Its a messaging service rather than an email service. Mark zukherberg calls it social mailing. Its not at all convential mailing so I think it wouldn hurt any of the existing email providers.

I dont think this will affect Gmail beacuse Google Buzz did not affect Facebook. Google cant be better than Facebook in social media as Facebook cant be better than Google in search / email

Facebook is just a trend and I dont think it will affect google mail's status in any way. google is widely used by many compared by facebook and besides Facebook wont even release the traditional mailing capability like what Google has.

With more than 500 million active users, I think Facebook is more than a trend now. And from what I learn, their new service is not only the usual email, nor the Instant Messaging, but rather an integrated service that encapsulates emailing, instant messaging and sms.

It's rather too soon to say anything, but Yahoo has once dominated the search engine market before the rise of Google, now look where they are , so we'll see.

Google is surely feeling the heat now. And I'm just glad that there is at least some competition, which is good for us as users.

I'll reserve my judgment until FB's email service is operational and I actually get to use it. It'd be nice to see this impending clash of the titans, though. It'd be nice for us end-users.

It's a matter of time to have word "facebook" officially in dictionaries as google for 'googl'ing.
