this ad is now running on Facebook ... Google is now using FB's
ad system to promote giving AdWords a try

this says a LOT about how powerful FB ads have become!

  • haha That's classic. Awesome

    Keith
  • LOL that's funny
  • Is this for real? Sorry if it is an obvious joke forgive me I am not always the sharpest pencil , If it is for real WOW would never have believed that, isn't there a big google FB spat at the moment?

    • I am NOT pulling anyone's leg here ... 100% legit. I was
a bit when I saw it the first time as I generally sort of
ignore the right sidebar on FB - so it was just quick glance
as the page refreshed - but then a few minutes later? it
popped up again and I took a screenshot.

it popped up as I was working on some ideas for the landing
tab for a page I admin ... a page relevant to internet marketing,
so I would assume that is a term they are targeting.

really shows that Facebook has been hitting the 'ol big 'G'
a LOT harder in the "money to spend on clicks" market.

if this is not new? first time I have ever seen the ad...

  • That is pretty wild.... good on them though! It definitely shows the power and potential of facebook advertising when they have the 'Almighty G' using the platform as well!

    Cheers,
    Carney
  • Google has been doing this for at least a year with lots of different products, so nothing new.
  • I love it 500 million users plus can never be wrong.
  • That is pretty cool.... but I'm not all that surprised.

Look at your TV, you see ads for USA on TNT (or other stations) all the time.

Who do you think some of the most likely people are to try G's PPC? People who buy FB ads makes sense to me....

And let's be honest, (because Google's not dumb) they know the people who look at those ads the most are us marketers.

  • Google bows to Facebook? Doubt that. Google uses Facebook as a great marketing tool? Sure.

    • when I use the word 'bow' ?

my meaning was that they are acknowledging that FB ads
are worthy of (google) using for advertising.

wild (for me) as google is not happy that FBook has teamed
      up with Bing for search.

but then google does have a facebook page? why not
      also advertise?

  • Thanks for sharing. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that Facebook will become an incredibly powerful advertising platform in the future, the key here is demographics - unlike regular Google or Yahoo PPC advertising, Facebook members reveal a lot about themselves in their profiles, and this enables you to target demographics far better. This is what makes media buy advertising so powerful and scalable, as it has both reach and powerful targeting capabilities (and Facebook has both of these attributes too).

    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • I can't wait to see the add so I can delete it and then say its irrelevant to me. HAHA I hate Google.
  • I 'Like' your title, Google bows to Facebook!!!. I've been waiting for someone to come along and push down the bully (Google). The more competition the better it is for advertisers like us. Now go and create your FB fan page. Humpty Dumpty reigns no more.
  • Wow, that's classic!
  • Facebook's been doing the exact same thing on Google's network for years.

Google are now returning the favor, and at the same time they are coming out with a whole new array of features for their advertisers.

    You know...

    "Watch This Space"
  • Haha that is great! Just like a father leading his son!
  • Google advertises on Facebook?

    Big deal.

I've seen Google placing ads on other sites too.
  • Okay so it is real.... I think that is a sign of the changing tides. Google has been the only fish for many years ... and social media has happened very quickly.
  • the tides aren't changing xD only that google knows alot of users of facebook never use google or know of its features very well.

The fundamental functions of both companies are very different to each other. Google is a search engine, and facebook is a social network when stripped to the bone.
  • The COMMON THING between ppl using yahoo/microsoft advertising & google advertising is Facebook.

This is a step to pull yahoo advertisers to Google. No wonder they're No. 1
  • Nice point...I agree....
  • Now, if only Facebook could deliver the same CTR as Adwords, then it could actually be worthwhile.

Our ads get anywhere between 2% and 5% CTR with Google, but Facebook barely scratches that, at 0.03% (or, at least, it did a few months ago when I tried it - things may have changed since then).
  • I dont think google is bowing to FB. Google has openly said that FB is its only real competitor. To leverage on each other is the sensible thing to do.

FB may have surpassed G in terms of traffic but has it surpassed G in ad revenue? I still think search delivers more targeted visitors to your site. Sure, a person may spend hours on facebook everyday but that person is not in buying mode all the time. On FB you can zero in on your market demographics but not the intent of your buyer. On the other hand, in search marketing you can zero in on a searcher when he/she is looking for exactly what you have to offer.
  • Oh, and while we're on the subject - Facebook takes at least a business day to approve a new ad; worse still, you have to go through the approval process every single time you make a change to the ad, even when tweaking the text or changing the demographic. In comparison, Adwords approves all my ads instantly, or, in cases of reviews, within an hour.

    • Google now realizes that Facebook is a great networking site that can help them promote their site. The number 1 search engine uses the number 1 networking site.. That's cool..
  • Hmmm - well since I have always had more luck getting buyers through Facebook Ads than AdWords I'm not surprised

hilarious. This actually made my morning.
  • oh the big giant on his knees, how humble
  • Awesome... finally Google has agreed that FB has power to take it down...
  • Microsoft must be loving it since they have a share in FB....lol
  • FB has a 25% market share according to WebmasterWorld - serious traffic.
  • Guess they are crying to get back those 15000 affiliate marketers they banned from Adwords few months back
  • Guys!!! LoL! This means nothing Please understand that FB is a social networking site. If FB is gone you could shift away, but if Google is gone - WE are all GONE!

  • Now with FB becoming so big, I guess Bing is trying to reinvent its search functionality by incorporating social media elements in it.

  • cross advertising is common in all media.
yahoo advertises on google and google advertises on yahoo as well.
business wise it does not make any difference to them either way and they laugh to the bank anyway.
  • Google bows to Facebook? Nice
  • Thanks for posting, Eric. This is the first time I saw this just like many warriors who responded already. I also agree that it's all about the business. Even if they are in a head-on competition, having this ad is still beneficial for both FB and Google.
  • That is classic man! But who wouldn't? I mean, we all know Facebook is where people are. Its like a market place and sooner or later, even Google will invest on facebook. It just makes sense to do so. But i doubt its a big deal for Google. I mean, if Google pays Yahoo for advertising, now that's a classic.
