Would this simple technique get you indexed quickly?

I hope no one gets the feeling that I just discovered that indeed, water is wet, but has anyone done this to get indexed quickly via Google on a new site or when adding new content?

Let's say you have/create an rss.xml link off of your site. You go to Google Reader and subscribe to your own feed. Google is now "aware" of your new site and has a reason to check your rss feed for new update regularly.

Is this sound thinking? I've used it a few times quite well. Obviously, if you're a high-enough level in EZA and can get a linking article approved in a couple of hours, that would probably work too.

Thoughts?

It would depend if the google search engine and google reader communicate and share information with each other.

Google is made up of a lot of individual entities and they aren't all communicating with each other. For example, the google search engine and google analytics bots don't share information, at least according to Matt Cutts of google.
