Hi all,

My site (see signature) is based on WP and so far it is smooth. I am trying to add a blog to it so that i can build up content.

Right now it is set to have a static front page and I have not defined a page for the blog posts.

Key point for now is that in my main page template, I do NOT call up the WP sidebar. I replaced that function with a call for a new file called "testimonials.php"

In other words, my main page is using a custom template.

To add a blog here is what I tried:
1) add a new page called "Blog", and assign the same template.
At this point if I view the page, everything is normal.

But then I take the next step:
2) In the admin panel, under options-->reading, I tell WP that the "blog" page is where posts will reside.

Then all hell breaks lose. The testimonial 'sidebar' (custom file) is now replaced with two instances of the WP sidebar!

See here:

So as soon as I tell WP that the blog page is where posts will go, it massively screws up the blog page rendering and I have no freakin' idea why.

This is really weird. I need help.

Depending on how your theme is set up, check your home.php file or maybe the Main Index Template file and look for the call of the sidebar(s). It looks like it may be calling the sidebars twice so just take out one of them (or both) depending on how you want it.

Greg - thanks a lot! I totally forgot about the Main Index Template because I was not using it when I had no blog. It already had one instance of the sidebar called up and I had somehow added another in a diff location without commenting out the first.

Thanks a lot - sometimes it should be obvious and it isn't (to me).

Hi Chris, if you are doing this in the future it would be easier to make a custom page template for the new sidebar/tutorial feature then change the calls. That way you can select that from your page template for example on your home page and use the rest of the theme as normal throughout. Hope that makes sense.

    All the best
