Looks like an extremely helpful answer from John, above ... but I'm with you all the way.

I swear the people who put some of these sites together have absolutely no concept at all of how their material/information comes across to "non-techies". Obviously some are worse offenders than others, but there's still a significant proportion of websites on which I'm looking for the big, prominent button saying "Click here if you have absolutely idea at all what we're talking about".

LOL, to be honest, Alexa, I often find it profoundly amusing when you refer to (or make insinuations regarding) yourself as being in any way technologically/technically inept, or a "technopobe", or whatever. I don't see you that way at all!

You exude - as far as I can see - the traits of an astute analyst, a philosopher, and someone who is so inquisitive as to want to amass every morsel of knowledge that exists in relation to any subject-matter or system on which you focus your attention and efforts. You're clearly someone of profound intelligence and an IQ level (for what "IQ" is worth, anyway) of which I wouldn't even dare to hazard a guess - because at the very least I'm not even sure I can count that high!

From what I've seen of your posts here over the last couple of years, you have an incredible ability to interpret, comprehend and even explain - how shall we say - less than straightforward scientific and legal concepts, in addition to having a brilliant and clear-cut working understanding of internet marketing principles and methodologies. Basically, many of your areas of "interest" are on some level fundamentally "technical", I think? To that end, I don't quite see how many (comparatively simple) technological concepts should baffle you!

I'm sure I'm not the only one (and I mean this, and aren't just trying to "flatter you") who sometimes questions whether he's in the virtual presence of an actual genius at times, or just someone who happens to have the ability to read what must amount to about 50 books per day (coupled with an incredible memory), between running her business, helping others, and writing essays and such for university.

Basically, I just refuse to believe you're in any way technologically or technically challenged ... and if you really are, it's got to be that way ouf of choice, surely, and nothing that really puts you at any sort of disadvantage, or poses any significant long-term hindrance on your ability to utilise whatever you need to serve your purposes.

Sorry to sidetrack the OP's thread. Just making an observation (and sorry to freak you out ).

Will just one little example change your perspective (I could give ten)? I'm one of the apparently few people here who can't even begin to cope with Wordpress at all, in spite of repeated attempts (one of them still occasionally under way). I suspect actually that there are many, many more who are either too embarrassed to say so or just don't have the opportunity/occasion.

Nah ... I just do a good bluff.

I can do "science" and "law" a bit (but I have something approaching "formal education" in those departments), but technology, and especially computer and internet technology, is very different indeed. Honestly. People who "get it" just don't understand how people who "don't get it" don't get it. Hence my point above. Seriously! I agree entirely with GoogleWarrior above. I often look at websites/services that I think I want to know how to use, and within 5 minutes abandon them because I literally don't understand what they're talking about. And (in some cases) I end up "outsourcing" to compensate for my own deficiencies ... which is no way to run a business, really, because it doesn't improve my own skills at all (albeit that so far, for the most part, I've got away with it).
