I'm new - Why I'm going to make it

I'm new here and to IM.

First I want to say thanks to the creators of this site and to the contributors.
Kudos to anyone who has arrived here on their own. It really is a tough learning experience to delve into internet marketing and persevere long enough to find any worth while information.

That's why I'm so impressed with this forum.
I plan to be an active member here.

The rest of this post is for my benefit even more so than yours and I don't want to post this to a blog or something. I don't need anyone following my journey since that would just be more of the blind leading the blind.

I recently had a pretty devastating layoff and have been trying to start over. That was followed by a series of unfortunate events that has taken a quite awhile to recover from.

I have been interested in making money online for a long time. And well, I've been interested because I'm not brain-dead. Anyone can see the unprecedented market potential online and I humbly would like to stake my claim and earn my piece. I believe I'll make it in IM (not cocky, just it's not self serving to doubt, you know?).

IM suits the skills I have as well as any other business. I was self taught DOS about 20 years ago, and have had and used several computers ever since. I'm an above average computer user, don't know how to program, but have made a couple bare bones websites in a college computer class and for giggles, family pics, etc. I know how to install hardware, etc.

I have a sales background, and have led and coached a sales/ customer service team in the corporate world. I really don't want to go back to corporate America, I'm a bit jaded from it now.

I've always considered myself a bit of a writer as well (and can use fairly correct grammar when I choose).

Plus, it's what I've decided. I want to make IM work. I want to have flexibility in my schedule, be my own boss, make a decent living, and work hard to reach my goals. I feel like if anyone can start making a living online, it's me.

I have a family and they depend on me. So I'm under no illusions, this business is tough starting. I got the IM bug though. Even if I have to return to a regular 9-5, which might happen, I will continue to pursue this thing in my free time.

Most of all, I've taken action. I started. It's not much, but I started. So far it's just a free wordpress blog with a generic name, not my keywords in it. The meager 3 articles are targeted to my keywords. It's not monetized, indexed, or backlinked yet, (although I posted 1 link into another forum.) I might have overreached with my niche. It may be too big to tackle, at least for now. Either way, I've got major SEO work ahead.

I'm also a bit paranoid. I don't want to break any rules, such as on this forum or any others with linking. Plus, if I didn't overreach on my niche, I'd hate to reveal the plan so far. Someone with any level of practical experience could take it, and out do me easily I'm sure.

Also I used Ping-o-matic, which I understood would "update the internet with my pages." I didn't realize it would post comments on my blog, and hope this isn't frowned upon when I try to monetize. So yea, a bit paranoid.

But I have started. And I think that's key. I got a Market Samurai trial, and it's pretty impressive. I might have to buy it. Then I signed up for "the challenge." These seem to be 2 great free ways to get started (This is NOT intended to be spam btw, it's just what I did).

So anyway, yea pretty long winded lol. But I wanted to introduce, say thanks, and get my thoughts out.

I'm a Warrior damnit!

    Welcome..

Exactly the same as me, I started with nothing but a strong sales background and a good attitude. Seemed to help me a lot in IM. You already have what it takes - and you can learn everything else!!

You'll be fine.. Attitude is everything!

    Wish you well!

Hey, excellent post, and welcome to the warrior forum.... I too have just been recently laid off and have two little kids to support. Failure is not an option for me, so I'm doing everything in my power to get this off the ground... Can't say I'm doing too bad at it either, I've had a few click-bank sales and its looking good. As far as monetizing your site goes, stuff like adsense is great, but it probably wont produce the income your looking for unless you have a TON of traffic... I played with that and amazon for awhile and decided(at least for me anyway) that it isnt worth it. I'm sticking to selling products from click-bank and cj, and that has made all the difference.. I must agree though, you absolutely HAVE to start building a list if you're going to make it work. The real money IS in the list that you have. I use mailchimp for all of that. It's free for now and has been really good to me... You are also going to want to join the War Room if you havn't already. The information and goodies in there is invaluable. Good luck to you!

Welcome to the forum. Once the IM bug bites, it seldom lets go. Read around on the forum a bit more it should give you the confidence to overcome the paranoia that you're feeling. Pretty much all of us have made mistakes along the way though. Not only did we survive them, we've mostly becomer stronger and wiser as a result of them.

I like your 'can do it, gonna do it' attitude, and I like that you have no reservations about returning to a 9-5 if necessary to support you while you continue to build your IM business. A 9-5 isn't ideal - obviously, which is why everyone tries to escape it - but I think it's daft too the way it's often talked about as such a shameful idea that even wandering barefoot and homeless from one internet cafe to another would be a better alternative. It's just a means to an end and one more way of putting bread on the table.

Good luck with your new path. I hope it turns out to be fun as well as profitable for you.

"I'm also a bit paranoid. I don't want to break any rules,"

I think this is a problem for many of us. Doubt and fear are killers. It sounds like you have you "why" for doing this so just keep with that. Make sure that you keep strong daily habits for productivity.

Also... the people on this forum are very generous and helpful. You will get a lot of help.

What you should do is find a couple people on this forum and read everything they have posted. Find 2 or 3 people that you feel like you can trust and listen to their advice. This way you won't get caught up in tons of conflicting information and let doubt kill your plan.

Get a mentor somehow. And listen to people that you trust. If you trust them, take what they say and test it out like you believe it will work.

As a salesman know that you have to have a little faith to make this stuff work. Wishing the best for you.

Congratulations! Thank you for sharing this with the members of the Warrior Forum. Having a good, positive mindset, along with the true willingness to work through adversity, cannot be emphasized too much. This reminds me of the classic book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It is a favourite book of mine, and millions of other people. Best wishes.

Did anyone actually read that essay?

Dude, telling us about your hopes and dreams ain't gona help you make money online.

That essay of yours (from the subject, I didn't read the essay) seems more of an attempt to try to convince yourSELF you're going to succeed in IM. If you're having trouble convincing yourself it'll work, then don't even bother trying. Go back to your desk job.

Thanks to everyone for their positive comments. I appreciate the encouragement.

Snow_Predator, I won't justify my post to you. Can't blame you for not reading it. It was long. I expect you'd prefer if I made my first post to be begging for a hand holding? In that case can you tell me what niche to go into, how to get paid, what title, keyword, SEO, fonts, template, and 2 ply toilet paper to use?

      Thanks for your input.

What an immensely humorous and witty guy you are, indeed.

I'm not even going to attempt to refute your pathetic allegations as to my motives for being friendly towards other helpful, bright individuals on this forum, because you clearly don't understand or appreciate that sort of thing.

What age are you exactly? I bet you and my 12 year old cousin would get along like a house on fire. (How your parents' child web filter let you gain access to the WarriorForum is beyond me.)

Actually I did check your post history, just to see if all of your previous correspondence was as pointless and exuding of as much arrogance and egotism as the one in which you tried insulting me.

Sadly, my suspicions were confirmed: you're a pathetic imbecile whose "tone" and manner in almost every post you make seems to be part of an attempt to ridicule someone else and/or establish yourself as some sort of uber-successful, patronising, know-it-all alpha-male.

I suspect you'd be more warmly welcomed by (and would get along better with) members of certain other related forums. Here, people are slightly more dignified and intelligible in their interactions with one another.

This, and others' apparent appreciation of your participation on this forum, is partly evidenced, I expect, by your relatively low "thanks count".

(I apologise profusely to the OP, and to the other participants in this thread who are offering constructive help, advice and encouragement - and who can at least respond to a post without exhibiting all the maturity of an infant.)

it's so pleasant and even mind fueling to read such essays like yours! makes you feel like we are all united with one single goal in mind: to make it in the internet marketing field. Then everything starts to darken when people are too overly focused on the practical aspect of the forum, that they start offering undeserved negative feedback. Don't take it too seriously, NotLurking111, you've got a great attitude there to share swords in our war to conquer the treasures of internet marketing. Welcome on board!

First off, welcome to the warrior forum!

Secondly... you seem like you have a good head about you, you know where your going, have a semi plan and is taking action. Many struggle with these aspects alone, so your farther ahead than most.

I really can't offer any advice that hasn't already been said. I will say this though; keep on keeping on

Also, you may want to move to blogger if you HAVE to use a free web host. If you can afford it though you need to get hosting and a domain name.

The free wordpress blogs doesn't allow you to monetize them in any way. No building a list, no ads, no affiliate offers or even selling your own product/service.

    Check out there TOS

Good luck and we are all hear if you need us! If you have skype go ahead and add me, on a lot so I may be able to help you more directly if/when needed.

    Good luck,

Welcome! One word of advice... There always comes a point just starting out when you'll feel like all your efforts are in vain and you find yourself taking small "breaks" from your project. During this time off panic, doubt, and fear are stronger than ever.

This is the perfect time to refocus and double down on your initial project! Looking elsewhere for answers is what causes people to buy product after product, start and half finish everything, and not make any money.

If you stay focused on the big picture in IM (get targeted traffic-build lists and relationships-provide great value) the money will come. You just have truly believe that.

Welcome cswafford, good luck on your endeavors.

    Skid_Roe:

Wow. I have to laugh at myself. That is too funny. I actually worked my way up to 5 articles this evening. I read somewhere 5 articles is enough for a micro-site. I was going to begin work on SEO and getting indexed. LOL.

Too funny. I was realistic enough to know my first run would likely be more learning experience than success. I seem to remember a samurai adage (very apropos eh?) that says "die quickly," as in rush out to battle with no fear and get results, good or bad. I guess I got it over with and failed quickly. Well I learned a whole lot this week and will try something else.

I suppose I could just take my content and move it somewhere else, after checking the TOS, lol. Not sure if I'll appear to be duplicating though.

Anyway the blog title was a generic title and I wanted one for fun anyway to just post stuff I find interesting in my net travels. I'll still use it.

I could still use it to backlink any other sites I get right?

I also wish I knew how to "thank" other members, all the great responses have made me feel right at home here.

Don't take my word for it, but I am fairly certain you can use it to backlink to other sites with.

As for the thank you post, there should be a thanks button in the bottom left hand corner of each post where you find "quote" "multi-quote" and "quick reply".

If you can't see it you may not have enough posts to use the feature, I'm not sure how Allen has it set up.

      Good luck,

Ok so stop talking about yourself and get to work. Just teasing - but seriously do give some thought to what your customer is looking for instead of your mindset.

If you hope to not return to the 9-5, you'd best be willing to kick 10X more ass than 99% of the most driven people on this forum.

Lot's of great people here, I'm not hacking them at all...I'm saying (from experience) that you'll have to be willing to still be going 100% full tilt LONG after you passed the tired and frustrated part.

I was laid off for 11 months and swore I would use that time to become the next Guru and change the face of Internet Marketing forever....

I had a (and still have) two little mouths to feed as well as my wifes....ahhhh...."regular sized" mouth and my big trap to feed so I wound up taking my old job back when things picked up.

Point is, this stuff is not push-button simple and requires skill, dedication, drive, determination, connections, luck, perseverance...

I'm happy to report that once I got back working and knew there was food on the table, I DID ramp things up 100x and my online business(s) are doing way better than before.

It's almost time to turn the tables ;-)

Keep at it...it's VERY rewarding to get paid over and over for work done ages ago.

    Best of success to you.

  • Before you go crazy buying Market Samurai an whatnot, it's important that you understand the key basics of this game. You probably are familiar with some principles due to your sales background.

Remember that this game is all about traffic to frontend + conversion + backend offers. There's nothing else you have no know, and more importantly nothing else you should be distracted with. If you understand this formula (and master it of course), you will have a bright future in IM.
