IMers in non-PayPal countries - how are you handling online payments?

I am a Brit but I live in an East European country long-term. That has MANY advantages, a pretty easy low-cost life being one of them. It is also great for IM because you can still access US, UK and other we$$$tern markets and generally get paid by the various affiliate programs etc (cheque, bank transfer etc.).

I also have a Premium (Premier, whatever it's called) PayPal account which I can use for most stuff. The country I live in is NOT in the PayPal system and won't be for a long time yet. I have got some products in the pipeline and I need a payment solution that can handle it. I am concerned about PayPal asking questions when I start getting more than just a few monthly affiliate payments into my account on launch day. After all, I am not actually resident in the UK, so cannot have company status there. I cannot get a merchant account with a bank for the same reason (the country I live in also does not currently have ANY online merchant solutions available). I do own a company locally, but that doesn't help much.

So, I mention all this to see if anyone else is in this sort of position and to see how you handle it - are there payment solutions out there that would suit someone like me (sigh, I guess there's always Clickbank)? Any such solution would need to integrate with Wishlist, DLGuard, etc. Maybe some Brits know if I can register a company in the UK without actually being resident... Any ideas much appreciated.

I know someone in a similar (well, kinda) position to you who uses 2checkout.com.

Apart from credit card payments, they can accept PayPal payments on your behalf.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestion Neil. I'd had a look at 2checkout but wasn't sure what the catch was with that and the other similar services. Is it just the higher fees? I mean, why is it relatively easy to sign up with them, while getting a merchant account with a UK bank means jumping through all kinds of hoops?

I could see how 2Checkout is fine for doing a WSO, for example but I also looked at how to integrate with Member Wishlist paid membership. It seems that it is a generic signup, so you just put the form on your (protected?) thankyou page after payment. Guess I would have to look into that. Thanks.

Good day to you markowe. I am currently in the same situation where I want to find an alternative to PayPal because they do not allow withdrawals for the country where I live and probably never will. Right now I am looking at this website Web Marketing Magic dot com. It come highly recommended by Fred Gleeck, if you know who he is. His website is Fred Gleeck dot com. I have not used Web Marketing Magic as yet because I am still doing some research on it.

This is one of the questions from Web Marketing Magic website.
"What online credit card processors is Web Marketing Magic compatible with?"
Answer: Web Marketing Magic is compatible with all of these major online credit card processors:

2CheckOut.com*, PayPal*, PayPal PayFlow*, PayPal Website Payments*, PayPal Express Checkout* and there are a lot more.

It is compatible with 2CheckOut, so I thought it might be helpful to you. Good luck. And if you find any other alternatives please keep me informed about them as well.

I use AlertPay. And I know that it will soon become as competent and popular as PayPal.

I do the same. Along with Fastspring if I need to mix in digital delivery. PayPal is an option for me, but can suck eggs, as far as I'm concerned.

I far prefer Alertpay too and use them, I just wish that someone would finally sit PayPal and the rest down and order them to come up with a solution for it all to be standardised.

Alertpay suffers from the fact that it is not advertised, and doesn't have a superpower like Ebay behind it, couldn't Amazon take it under its wing or something?

Thanks for the suggestions people. I find the whole thing a little confusing. For instance why would WebMarketingMagic.com need to be 'compatible' with 2Checkout? Aren't they similar, competing services? I can't even really grasp how PayPal compatibility works, but I guess that means that people can pay with PP and they will basically be billed in the name of, say, 2Checkout, not my name - they can still pay with PP but I don't have to worry about PP freezing my account for 6 months or whatever?

At the moment I am favouring 2Checkout as they seem to cater for my situation, paying out to me by wire transfer at set intervals. Also, DAP is compatible with 2Checkout as far as I can see, though I cannot quite see what that integration exactly entails. Parsing the confirmation email basically, I guess?

Also, today I discovered that my country is NOT supported by Clickbank! I live in an East European, EU candidate country, yet my country is not listed, but for example Kyrgysztan and Albania are! Erm..!

I thought the exchange might amuse you:

    Me:
I have moved abroad (to xxxx from Britain) and wanted to change my account
address. I notice that my country is not listed in your drop-down list.

I am sure that is just an oversight since other obscure East European countries
    like Albania are on there!

    CB Support:
Thank you for your interest in ClickBank! We accept clients from over 100 countries. If your country is listed on our sign-up page (http://www.clickbank.com/signup.html), then you are eligible to open a ClickBank account. If your country is not listed, we cannot offer you an account at this time. Regrettably, we are unable to make any exceptions to this rule at this time.

    Me:
Thank you for your reply. If it is indeed the case that xxxx is not listed because Clickbank is not open to publishers in that country it is strange that it IS open to Kyrgyzstan for example!

P.S. Oh wait, gotcha, Web Marketing Magic is a shopping cart solution, that's why it's 'compatible' with those services. I am looking for a suitable online merchant account, not so much a shopping cart. If I am going to be using DAP or DLGuard or whatever then I wouldn't need that per se.

You can use Fastspring.com to accept paypal and credit card payments. But they only only Digital products(Downloadable). If you have a service continue with 2co or plimus.

        Hello there

Since we live in the same country I'm pretty familiar with the obstacles we're facing when it comes to finding a suitable solution for receiving money via PayPal.

The best alternative is definitely 2CO. My friend signed up couple of years ago and never had any problems so far.

You also asked if you can register a company in the UK without actually being resident. Yes, you can and it's very simple procedure because you can do it online without going to UK personally and it all takes around 10 days. But even that won't help in this situation. One guy from here did that in order to open Premium PayPal account. He finished complete procedure, opened full business PayPal account and after few days they blocked it. So, my suggestion is to stick to 2CO because I heard only good things about their service so far.

Hey, Dejan, great detective work, I still haven't worked out how you figured out which country I am in, but it's not a secret anyway, I just don't want to confuse people, you know what it's like (WHERE? Siberia?!)!

Well, I am definitely leaning towards 2CO, I contacted their sales staff who explained some more stuff to me, sounds perfect!

As for registering a company in the UK, it might be different for me because I AM actually British, so would just want to see how I can operate a company while non-resident. Hey, all it would have to do is cash cheques for me I have the Paypal Premier account, but you need a merchant account really to do any serious stuff.

By the way Dejan, I didn't realise until the 'conversation' I had with the Clickbank guy above that CB doesn't accept affiliates from, er, 'Siberia'! Croatia, yes, Montenegro, yes, Macedonia, yes... but our country, no! Duhhh... I think they are actually just a bit slow, but it is REALLY annoying. If I want to launch a product and make any serious sales I have to use a UK address for cheques (not moved onto direct deposit yet). We should really start lobbying them, crazy...

Hey, "neighbor" I tried to send you a PM but I guess I gotta have at least 50 posts in order to be allowed to send PMs so if you want you can contact me on my email 'dejan345 at gmail dot com'. I'd like to keep in touch.

Speaking of those online payment issues... Yeah, it's really frustrating. When it comes to PayPal policy I really can't comprehend it using only common sense so I attribute all that to some higher evil forces with bad sense of humor or it's karma or...I don't know lol

So, for now, the best solution is to use 2Co. Maybe it's even better than regular PayPal because you don't have to worry that they'll block your account for some reason.

      Pozdrav

Hey, coming back to this topic I was almost convinced that 2Checkout was the solution and now I read this from the DAP guys: http://digitalaccesspass.com/blog/20...oduct-sellers/

That's not very reassuring, especially as I want to use DAP! So is it true that 2CO will jerk my customers around?! And is DAP still not integrated with 2CO then? That post was from Feb '10 so maybe something changed, but can't find anything.

You ask them, what i can tell you, Alertpay does not have offliene fraud verification procedure and money actually go to your account once the transaction is processed. So I think this variant can work. Also, as I said before, try Moneybookers.

If you're Brit and have bank account or CC in any of the UK banks, you can use your Paypal account wherever you live actually. Lately, Paypal have had no problems with people using account from other countries. Besides, you have Premier account, not a business one, that means that you may receive payments without formal incorporation, a sort of "middle way". I have been using Paypal premier account to receive payment from clients living in other countries than my Paypal account is registered in, and there's no problem for 3 years now. They would have more problems with native people from your Eastern European country, as they are suspicious in regards of that region. Still, forgot to say, if you plan to withdraw funds to your UK bank account in sums of more than 2500 euro per year, you will have to confirm your address in the UK.
So, if you cannot confirm the address, I recommend Moneybookers (works fine in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus - other Eastern European countries already have fully-functional Paypal as long as I know). They are second largest global payment system after Paypal, but they are more suspicious generally in checking on you and what your business is. However they work well with local banks. Alertpay also works well, but commissions can be higher sometimes.

I have used Alertpay in the past to accept payments from people who lived in countries where it was either difficult or not possible to get Paypal accounts. I think that they have some sort of e-commerce/shopping cart solution if you're wanting to do things on a large (i.e. product launch type) scale, but I've never used it myself as I obviously don't have a need for this - but you might you want to look into this to see if it's a viable solution that you can employ for your upcoming product launch.

wow nice to find more IMers from "siberia" here on the forum...

paypal is supposed to open shop in serbia in the next few months it was in the local news some time back...heres a link

Limun.hr - Serbia to join PayPal

its not clear what type of paypal account they will allow for serbia...

as for 2co.com their service is top notch but their user interface is something that i have problems with...theres simply too much fields for the user to fill in when they ask for the credit card info...after trimming down all the unnecessary options in their panel it was still substantially more information for the buyer to type in than with other payment processors like plimus for example...

as for CB they just say "we dont know when we will offer service to your country" and when i ask whats the problem they give the same answer over and over

i actually had to go to montenegro and open up a bank account through a relative and "money launder" just to be able to use click bank...

working with pilmus now they are fine just like 2co only their panel has less fields for the user to fill in....

      pozdrav svim IM iz regiona

I have the exact same dilemma, i.e. I live in a non-paypal country. Actually, a semi-paypal country. I can use my paypal account to make payments and send money ( which I do often) but I cannot accept paypal payments. This is a handicap when trying to sell products online.

I looked in to 2CO too, but ran in to some comments and reviews that made me hesitant. A friend suggested moneybookers, but I read some scary things about them as well. My short term solution is to have all my payments sent to a trustworthy friend in a paypal country who would then wire me the funds once a week.

This is a short term solution until I can find a paypal alternative that works, so this thread has my undivided attention! :-)
