Fyi, Hostgator is planning a major Black Friday promotion. Here are the details:

We're offering 50% OFF EVERYTHING From 12:00AM CST - 5AM CST

We're offering 80% OFF EVERYTHING From 5AM - 9AM CST WHILE SUPPLIES LAST (first come, first receive; so definitely don't miss out!)

From 9AM - 11:59PM CST OR after 80% OFF accounts have sold out, we will continue to offer 50% OFF EVERYTHING

This applies to ALL Accounts and ALL Term Lengths. So you're visitors and friends will have the opportunity to receive up to 80% off of up to 3 years worth of Hosting! That would come out to $35.64 for 3 FULL YEARS!

That includes Shared Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS Hosting AND even Dedicated Servers! Never before have we allowed the promotion on EVERYTHING including reseller, vps and dedicated servers AND ALL Term Lengths AND allowed our affiliates their full, regular commission on every sale you send us on Black Friday!

This will apply to the client's first invoice (first term length they sign up for whether that be 1 month or for 3 years).

This promotion gives our customers our award winning hosting for as little as:
Shared Hosting - $4.95/month AS LOW AS $0.99/month
Reseller Hosting - $24.95/month AS LOW AS $4.99/month
VPS Hosting - $19.95/month AS LOW AS $3.99 First Month

I've never quite been able to understand what happens when existing customers contact the seller pissed at the deal new customers are getting that they're not getting!

As this progresses, maybe an existing Hostgator customer could get onto them and let us know how they handle it.

    Cheers,

I'll take that challenge. I am existing customer and a self-professed "hostgator hater".

sigh - unfortunately, I'm also a hostage because they're the only host that works "out of the box" with the software I'm running right now.

If they're anything like my cable company, if you call and complain loudly enough, they'll give you the deal, too. My husband has practically made a career our of keeping out phone and cable bills reasonable with this tactic.

          That's cool.

I heard that to transfer your emails and other stuff over is pain in the a**. It takes 72h for account to be shut down completely, so i assume that exact same time takes to get everything over to the new account. So you are looking at 152h downtime?? I don't know..

Yes, just for new accounts. Also, think of the hassle it'd take (especially if you have dozens of existing sites!) to transfer them all to the new account just to take advantage of this deal.

Just came off the chat with customer support, guy named Abraham. He needed to check and took quite a while to answer.

Finally came back and told me this is for new customers only. It's not for existing customers that open a 2nd account. He said they will check every account opened during this special promotion.

Yes, me too, I am getting cramped on the one hosting package, might take up the offer (if it's real). I am with Bluehost, anyone care to compare the two hosts? I am totally satisfied with BH so have no need to change otherwise, but don't want it if it's inferior to Bluehost in any way.

Cool. Is it possible to sign up directly if i don't get any other affiliate friend. It's not that i don't want to signup under them and by being affiliate myself i would love to sign up under another affiliate marketer, but just asking if it's possible to sign up directly.

Yes you can get a new account, you just cannot use your own affiliate link to get it or you would be violating Hostgators TOS.

The hassel of setting the site(s) back up and the down time.

Question, Is the 35.64 actually for 3 yrs or is that 35.64 each year for 3 yrs?

Either way it's a hell of a deal!

It's $35 for the 3 whole years. But that's the 1 domain hatchling plan. The 3 year baby plan is $58 for 3 whole years. This is not a yearly fee. They bill every 3 years.

You do not need a coupon code to get the special discount. In fact by using YOUR discount code it may prevent the buyer from getting the full 50-80% off as the affiliate code you are giving is for $9.94 off.

Not to mention you really should not be sharing your affiliate code in this forum.

Me to. But I checked and unfortunately it is not good for current customers.
I just switched to a reseller plan last month.

However, I am a Hostgator affiliate and though I can't get the deal I can share it with my list members, on my sites, add a Bonus to it and maybe end up with something sweet from the share.

For anyone on the fence Hostgator is an excellent company and this is a fantastic deal.

I'm an existing customer and an affiliate. I personally don't care that I'm not getting a discount because I will still receive FULL commission. This is normally about $50 with hostgator. So if ten people sign up I'll make $500. Hosting for 3 years at 10 bux a month will cost me $360 . . . So I will get free hosting and make $140 profit! This sounds like a sweeter deal than 3 years for $36 . . .

If you have a list, this promotion is a blessing! I know my black friday will be profitable, will yours?

You folks need to look at this from a different perspective. Focus on making money and not pinching pennies Just my 2 cents

I can't see the logic behind the idea of existing account holders transferring sites over to a new one and ditching the old to save pennies, even if Hostgator did think it was acceptable. If you only have one site then the inconvenience will be minor but, given the size of the plan you'd need for it, the savings would be miniscule. If you have lots of them then all those transfers and general faffing about would have associated costs anyway. Time is still money and I think there are better ways of spending it.

Agree. These promos are great for affiliates AND to grab new hosting packages for SEO, new projects, new customers, etc etc.

I'll try to buy/create 2-3 new accounts with them tomorrow morning - all for the price of one.

Absolutely. I've been thinking of an additional account with Hostgator anyway - it's already been budgeted for. But tomorrow does seem as good a time as any to open a new one

Too bad I don't have enough cash to even avail of the Baby plan for one year, which comes up to $23.88. Well, I have money but I'll use it for something else important. Besides, I already have a hosting account with another company which will end in June next year.

I think I'll pass unless I change my mind.

Agreed. I have dozens of sites on my existing Hostgator shared account (including some that I'm hosting for offline clients of mine with e-commerce functionality), so I shudder to think what would happen if I tried to switch those sites over and some glitches occurred.

Too much risk for too little reward, in my opinion. I definitely have better things to do with my time, and it's just not worth the stress and anxiety of transferring dozens of sites over!

Then I would have thought they'd just bill it. If I were to buy a sweater from an online store and then decide after they'd substantially reduced it that I'd like another one, I can't see them telling me that I couldn't buy at that price because I was already a customer. If for some bizarre reason Hostgator don't want an influx of extra revenue from existing customers that most weren't otherwise planning on spending, then the terms (or a link to them) should be given at the point of sale and it's your call whether you decide to violate them.

    Answer is .... NO

Good luck you affiliates, I think you can make some $ on this

Well this is the strange thing... first he said I could get the special prices if I opened a new account. So he said yes. This took about 5 minutes for him to find out.

I then asked if I could transfer my existing sites over from my existing account.

He then come back a minute later and said oh sorry no you can't open an account on this offer if you are an existing customer.

I assume they haven't been properly briefed on the offer.

I am guessing HG don't want to lose out on me paying over $10 a month, and especially if they have to pay a potential affiliate commission too.

He was probably speaking on the strength of your comments about transfering your existing sites over to the terms of the special offer (and it's hardly surprising - we'd have our objections too if a rush of our customers expected the same of us!). I can't see why you couldn't just open another account under the terms of the special offer, but we'll find out tomorrow unless anyone gets confirmation either way before then.

That's true I could do that ... but the risk/reward isn't there for me. If I had 1 or 2 static sites I might do it, but I have a lot of MySQL databases and PHP scripts set up, I don't need that much hassle to save max $100 over the course of a year.

I was told it was new customers only and they would be checking accounts.

It is annoying that existing customers can't use it, but HG is worth it at full price.

I am an affiliate of HG so I decided to just post the offer on some of my websites, email my list and offer them a Bonus if they used my link and make the best of it.

There is no special black friday code unless you are talking about your own affiliate link code you made up in the HG affiliate section which any affiliate can do. Let's not try to confuse people.

To get the deal consumers can go directly to the site or through an affiliate's link. Just be sure you sign up at the listed times.

In addition you are going against the WF TOS by posting an affiliate link in your signature to Hostgator. From the Warrior Forum FAQ.

        (5) No Affiliate Links Allowed - Promote Your Own Domain/s Only. It's either this or we have to cut out sig files altogether which we do not want to do.

I'm a customer, but my wife is not....she happens to be my business partner, but since everything HostGator knows says it is me, I could open a new account under her name.

Will I? Heck no! In the time it takes me to transfer all of my blogs over to a new account I could have produced videos, written articles, created backlinks, worked on a PLR package, and made money.

The savings sound great to an existing customer until you realize transferring everything is going to have a really horrible return on investment.

Now, if you need an additional account sign up your spouse, your lover, your mom..........

Is it worth getting the Reseller package if I want to use my multiple domains or should I stick with shared hosting? I think it would be nice to have a reseller account but I would probably only use it for my domains.

My advice is stick to shared because:

      • It's cheaper
      • It's easier (fewer control panels, easier to add a domain etc.)
      • There are no bandwidth or storage restrictions like on reseller.

The disadvantages of share account are

      • You have one password for everything, which perhaps is less secure.
      • You can't resell
      • You can't give an techie access to just one site without them having access to everything.

If you can live with the disadvantages it is a lot easier to use shared.

You kinda can. You can create an FTP account that's locked into 1 directory only. You can also pre-create the mysql user/db and only give them access to that DB with PHPMyAdmin.

But...if you're using a techie in the first place then you probably don't know how to do this anyways.

Okay, I'm confused (takes very little).

I just got off of HG's 'Live Chat' with Matthew_Sc. I told him I presently have a shared hosting account and asked if I could ADD a reseller account under the BF Promotion. He said that I could.

          So, I wonder if:

a.) existing customers can add another account, but just can't affect their existing account via the promotion ?

b.) no, existing customers cannot take advantage of the BF Promotion at all

c.) the HG reps. really aren't exactly sure

d.) I'm an idiot and the question has been answered in this thread

I have the resellers package and love it. I do not host other people but use it just for my domains.

I love having the individual cpanel's. I can easily flip a site and just give the buyer a password and 30 days to move the site. I can start a site and give a designer the password for custom work etc.

I already have a reseller's acct and I contacted them this afternoon to see if I could get the special pricing and apply it toward my existing acct. Their answer was no, the special pricing is for new customers only. The HG guy got a little surly when I suggested that was not fair to existing customers and that it appears that HG doesn't really appreciate them. Then, he suggested that I might find a way around this problem. Anyhow, I thought you might be interested to know what they told me.

After reading this thread, I am not sure that any of us really know what their intention is. Different HG people are telling different interpretations. Among us, we have different perceptions of what it all means.

I am beginning to theorize that HG did not really think this out before they announced it. I would just like to purchase a discounted 36 month extension to my existing resellers acct. I think that is what many others here had hoped to do.
