Tired of learning....

Hello Warriors, yes I am tired of learning! I feel like I am loosing motivation. To this point I have signed up for hosting, downloaded my wordpress template, wrote two articles.....

Then I started reading and reading and I almost drifted off into learning land. I know I want to sell other people's products, but I guess I am just stuck in a rut. What am I afraid of? It is soooo frustrating.....

I guess another thing is that I can't quite get the logistics down, you know, setting up website, which plug-ins to use or not to use, should I use banner ads, adsense, do I want static site or more of a blog, opt-in form or no opt-in....blah blah blah blah....now you get the point.

I don't expect anyone to hold my hand....I know it probably sounds that way....and I know once I get going things should fall into place.....the problem is GETTING GOING!

Oh well enough of my ranting,

Regards.....

I would suggest that you pick a niche that you have a passion for - and do something everyday. Little steps can add to big things. Normally when you feel discouraged it means that you are right around the corner to your success! Good luck.

Not to sound harsh but there is no "end" to the learning here.

That's one of the things that I love about internet marketing. I'm one of those dorks that loved going to school - especially college.

The minute you stop learning in this professional or declare that you "know it all", you're toast imo.

However, if you're just looking for some motivation, here ya go - The learning curve at the beginning is pretty steep but it gets a bit easier. There's tons of help here if you just ask for it.

It's a start - how much did you expect in 30 days? Is your blog up and running? Are you posting to it regularly? Why only two articles in a month?

The impression I get from your post is that you have been trying but are overwhelmed so you say "I'm not motivated" and that gives you an excuse to sit back and do nothing.

How many hours a day are you spending at your computer? How many of those hours are reading emails, sales pages, WSO pages and forum posts? How many of those hours are building links, adding content to your blog, writing articles, looking for products to promote and getting links, etc.?

How long has your blog been online? How many backlinks do you have? What have you done to learn more about the niche you are working in? Lots of questions...right? I don't need to know the answers - but YOU do.

In the next month, work 6-8 hours a day on your sites, your backlinks, article distribution, promotion, etc. Not on reading or thinking or dreaming- work on your business every day most of the day.

I just wanted to tell you that I feel your pain. Just when you think you're about to turn a corner, you get hit by a dose of reality and you feel like all of your hard work is for nothing.

Well anyway I'm gonna hang in there and I know you can too! Just keep on learning and keep your focus. It's not gonna just be handed to you, you have to earn it.

Selling other people's products is called affiliate marketing. It's actually one of my favorite things to do, I absolutely love it. And I just released a WSO for way cheap in the WSO section going over a method that's so simple, and easy to do to earn over $100 a day if you put the time into it. It involves using Amazon Affiliate, selling physical products on a service already offered on the net. If you want, you can find it in my signature.

Your going to reach many points of discouragement in Internet Marketing thats just the way it is. You have to find the energy somewhere and keep going though. The rewards are great!

Forget about what your having trouble with for a moment and realize how far you've come. You have a website up and live, you realize the importance of plug ins and seo and yo'uve actually written some unique content.

Most people would give up at the point of buying a domain name cause their scared or whatever!

You breaking barriers and moving forward little by little and that is what its all about to be successful! DO NOT GIVE UP!

    Even when your losing hope!

    Find It!

How bad do you really want it Internet Rookie?

setting up website, which plug-ins to use or not to use, should I use banner ads, adsense, do I want static site or more of a blog, opt-in form or no opt-in....blah blah blah blah....now you get the point.
Setting up a website isn't terribly difficult these days. If you want a blog, you go to cPanel and click on Fantastico. If you want a Forum, you go to your cPanel and click on Fantastico. If you want generally any kind of pre-formated website, you go to your cPanel and check Fantastico.

If your new to all of this, a WordPress blog may be the way to go. They are simple to install, have lots of people that know and can help you, and they practically format themselves to be loved by search engines. After installing, go through your Admin Dashboard and check every area. If you find something that you don't understand, do a quick google search and take some notes. Don't spend to much time fretting about the small stuff. As you get things moving, and you motivate yourself (Yes, you have to motivate yourself) you will find that the little things will come as you find the answers.

Plugins... There are a countless number of these things, and most of them don't have any real information as to how to use them once they are installed. Also, the more of them you install, the more it slows your websites load time. My suggestion, stick with the basics. All In One SEO, which adds an editable page on your Dashboard under Settings >> All In One SEO. Any 4.5+ star plugin with the name Google XML Sitemap. Statpress, this gives up to the minute accurate statistics of your website. How many unique viewers you have, how many pages they have seen, how many spiders visited, and much more. It doesn't slow down your load time much, as long as you don't change the settings to be outrageous. WP Socializer, so your readers can tell their friends quickly and easily. Of course, with this you will need great and fresh content or it won't do much. I am sure there are a lot more that could be suggested, but the question is, do you need them?

Monetizing your website depends on the niche you are in. If your targeting physical goods, you might get more from using Amazon than AdSense. If your targeting digital products, AdSense and Clickbank might be the way to go.

Once you make these basic choices and get them set up, most of your efforts will be going towards creating useful content, and driving traffic to your site.

I felt exactly the same way some time ago... Know how it feels and how furstrating it is. The "secret" to cope with such despair is, however simple: stick to something, a single method, and STOP jumping form one thing to another.

I'm no guru (not even close), but if you need a hand, hey, drop me a pm.

And by the way... I won't sell you any of my products, since I don't work in the IM niche.

You need to be prepared for many tears and frustrations along the "IM" pathway - it's no different from any other business in that respect, except that IMHO the rewards are potentially far greater.

IMers that stick to it sometimes have to wait years before turning a true profit. I've spent 5 years investing in my IM lM knowledge and the latter ha;f of this year has seen some nice, ongoing ROI. It's great, but it hasn't been without its struggles - and there's be more struggles too. You just have to have faith in yourself - and keep LEARNING!!! "Life" is another way of spelling "learning"

you think too much all you need to do is take it one step at a time; don't worry about what methods to try, and don't read about everything all in one day, just choose a topic, for example banner ads, read an intro on it and decide whether you're up for using it or not; then go for another method and so on; to make it in this business you don't need to learn it all before starting; you'll catch up as you evolve.

    Hey Rookie,

Sounds familiar. There is a steep learning curve. What will help you I think is to be less perfectionist. It is something I suffer from believe me!

If you forget to do something, like set a meta tag or allow comments on a post, or install that important sitemap plugin, then in reality you can sort it out later and probably you'll be OK.

It is better to start something badly than to be paralyzed. Especially with website design and SEO - you can recover from mistakes and learn. You can always change your site later if you realise something is amiss, or the copy needs to be better.

Just get started and you will get rewarded! Good luck...

I know how you feel. The IM business can be very bearing on you if you don't take breaks. Remember that after 30 minutes on your computer, have a 5-10 break. Go have a cup of coffee, go for a walk, take the trash out, anything. Reading continuously will put you in information overload and that's not what you want when starting out. Believe me, I have tried so many things in such a short time and have failed on all of them because I was not concentrating on one thing and just reading constantly.

Another thing I suggest is whatever your goals are for getting into the IM business, then post them around your workspace to keep you motivated. For eg, if you want to buy a new car in 6 months time, post a picture of the car next to you so you can be reminded of it. Or if you want to pay off all those bills you got piling up, post the payment reminder and bills around your workspace to remind you.

    Hi Internet Rookie,

I understand exactly what your saying. It is a little frustrating at the start. It always seems that just when you have grasped a new concept another one comes up needing your attention.

As the others have written, there is a fair bit to get through as a newbie. Lots of reading and learning. Just know that in time it does get easier. Take those small steps towards your goal by doing something with what you have learned each day.

Be patient and keep at it. All you learn today will soon become second nature to you.
Believe in yourself and you will find success.

I have written a very basic Newbies Ebook that may give you an idea of how to start.
Just click my Ebook sig below. It's free for anyone to read. Maybe it will help.

    Happy trails,

  • Your problem sounds common to most people starting out. You have read several guides and know of many ways to do things, but you don't know which is going to work, but even if you do choose a method, you are scared that it wont even work.

Hence you've set up the blog, written the articles but I bet you don't believe yourself that it will work which is why I'm guessing you've gone no further than writing the articles and doing nothing else such as backlinking and so forth.

So instead you conform to keep on reading hoping the next thing will sound more appealing and completely convince you that it will work. It's one of the largest reasons why people fail.

That's why the average time for someone to finally succeed is over a year, because they tried so many methods or didn't give it a good try, until finally they get fed up, give it a proper go, choose something and lo and behold they see something form, and that drives them on to do it over and over and finally settle down with a solid plan!

You can either go through the stress of spending endless cash for the next year or so until you are fed up and either disconnect from IM or try one method, or you can start today, choose something and stick with it.

    You'll love me for it

I disagree with some of the advice offered here starting with the fact that you need to pick a niche you are passionate about. Don't get me wrong, being passionate about a niche is fantastic but only pursue it if people are SPENDING MONEY in it. You have information overload and you need to narrow your focus. Pick a business plan or model that people are having success with (you'll know by it's feedback) and then shut out all other distractions.

Unsubscribe from all your lists except maybe the one or two best ones you like the most. Stay away from forums and searches unless you are looking for a SPECIFIC answer only. Follow your business plan from beginning to end without taking shortcuts. You'll be amazed how much success you can have once you cut out all the online 'noise' you are being exposed to.

Simple advice: stop learning and start doing. Take action, repeated action, consistent action, starting right now.
You have the knowledge start using it. Learning can read as another form of procrastination. We pretend to learn but we are putting off doing.
Find your niche, refine your blog, choose a product, promote and drive traffic.
You know you can, we know you can. Start right now.

If you make mistakes (which we all do) you will learn from it.

The key is to take action and learn as you go. The theories
will make much more sense when you do it this way...

It sounds like you need a reality check.....

Making decent money online requires a LOT of work.

Even if your blog was set up well and had 1000 articles - that's no guarantee that you'd be making any money.

I think you're letting the technical details of what can be done get in the way of your thinking.

Until you're clear about what your business model is - the website/blog is just a distraction.

When you know what you're trying to build - then you'll know what type of site and what type of plugins etc. are appropriate.

I'd say take a step back and get your business straight before confusing yourself with website building.

Sounds like you are experiencing information overload. Chose one or two methods and work them for 4 to 6 months. By then you will know what is working or not and what needs modifying. Internet marketing is not a set-it-and-forget-it business. Because the rules of marketing change, particularly when it comes to the SERPs, you will always need to educate yourself regularly. It comes with the territory.

Haha I'm quite the opposite of you. I love learning and reading about internet marketing. This past year almost all I've done was learning about internet marketing. I feel like now is the time to take some serious action and implement everything I've learned so far.

It's easy to get overwhelmed. You don't have to know it all you just need to know enough to get started. Simply put marketing is all about choosing a profitable niche and product and getting in front of your prospect and offering them a solution to their problem. You should focus on providing real value and building a list of customers.

It's important to have a plan so you have a clear mind and don't go hopping around from method to method. My advice to you is to choose one area in internet marketing that you want to focus on such as affiliate marketing and stick to it. Also don't bother so much with the technical part of marketing.

Focus on writing great content and don't try to do Adsense , affiliate marketing etc. all at the same time. You'll get overwhelmed. Choose what suits you best.

For me it's SEO, affiliate marketing and copywriting, so I plan to make that my area of expertise.

Stop reading and more doing. Pick a course or whatever, try to grasp the concept then do it. If you fail, so what because you can try again. Be tough my friend because you will need it. There will be many long sleepless nights if you really want the lifestyle that IM can give (in my case anyway). Best of luck...hold on wait a minute, no such thing...just work hard and you'll get there.

Here is my suggestion cause I'm guilty of the same disease ASANA (all study and no action) What are you trying to accomplish? Sit down and figure out where you want to go. Driving with no destination will lead you to no man's land. With no plan you will continue to chase your tail and eventually you will become so frusterated that you will give up.

Sit down and figure out what do you want? You don't need every plugin for wordpress. Start out with the bare minimum. As far as having an optin form....That is a must. Did you know that most of the visitors that come to your page will never stop by again. Build up that list so you can stay in contact with them. Usually it takes about 4-7 visits before someone buys. Start building a valuable relationship with your visitors. Be informative and stand out from the crowd.

Define your goals, draw out a plan, and finally execute your plan using passion and consistency! Hope this helps. See you at the top

If you are honestly "tired of learning", you may not be cut out to be an online marketer.

Maybe it would be best to throw in the towel, and go back to the job world.

Now if you had opened this with "tired of failing", that would have been different, because maybe we could have taught you something.

I'm sure everyone in this forum has been in the same boat as you are in now.
    The difference is:
    1. Set a goal - what do you want to achieve? $1000 a month, a holiday in the Bahamas, helping mum and dad on holiday.
    2. Create pictures around your goal. Actually see yourself in those pictures. See the cheques rolling in every month in your letter box. Create these pictures until you feel emotions.
    3. Write down affirmations which have 'I am' as part of the phrase for example.
I am motivated and guided by the best Internet Marketing resources.
Say these affirmations morning and night. Using these affirmations creates a mindset atittude that point in one direction ( your goals). It gets rid of clutter and wasted thoughts.
    4. Keep to the basics
    5. Unsubscribe to all your emails that have no significance to your chosen programme.
    6. Create a website that is appealing to traffic(This is your engine)
    7. Start marketing(turning the key)
    8. A mentor
    9. Step by step videos where you are watching closely over the teachers shoulder how he does it.
