How to monetize with Squidoo, wife wants to do IM

Hello fellow warriors! My wife wants to start a blog/website for mothers, new moms, we are expecting our first baby in february and she has learned alot about being pregnant and of course will continue to learn about being a first time mom when he gets here. She also sees me working hard on hot damn short sales and preparing for the release of it in December. She wants to start her own blog for parenting/new moms, etc.

I suggested she set up a squidoo lens first and see how that goes. She is pretty savvy, and has a baby blog she updates every few days with pics, videos, and stories. so she knows how to blog and use the net.

How can she monetize the lens. i think with new mom books she read and reccomends, products she bought and will be using, and just insight on classes she took, stuff she learned. etc.

This is probably a pretty competitive niche, (new mommys) she wanted mommyspot.com, or something, but of course they are all taken.

Should I have her get a wp blog, put ads or affiliate links on it and do SEO for her niche, or what?

WHERE SHOULD SHE START? she knows it takes time and is not overnight process, I just want to point her in the right direction to get things going.

    squidoo lens sounds good, suggest you do some linking like directories, twitter ect, should help

    I used to have a site for work at home moms and let me tell you, the competition for "moms" is very cutthroat. More than any other industry I've been in.

    Crazy women!

    Anyway if you don't want to put any investment into it, have her start up with a Blogger blog. If you don't mind spending a few dollars, then set her up with hosting and a WordPress blog.

    I'd personally go for a blog rather then for a squidoo lens. But then again, she can do the lens first and if that turns well, create a blog and have the lens backlinking to it.

    For monetization, I'd think reviewing products she has used would work best. It will have a personal feel to it and people will be more likely to trust her then others that are promoting the same products.

    thanks all, we can set up blogs all day long, but my question is HOW DO YOU MONETIZE IT? do i put ads on it? i mean im missing something here? I know I can seo, link build, etc to get rankings, or use social media, message boards, forums, etc to get traffic, but what do i put on the blog/site to generate revenue??

      Start with the Amazon Affilaite program.... Books, baby stuff, mom stuff, baby clothes, mom clothes.... lots to choose from.

      There are several modules she could use to Monetize her lens. To start out when she is setting up her lens in her profile ensure she selects I want 100% revenue or it will automatically go to charity. Then she can select adsense and chikita and infolink from which to receive revenue.
      She can also add the amazon module ensuring she promotes bestsellers under the baby category.
      She can also go to clickbank and look for related information on Pregnancy and parenting and add that to her lens as well.

    100% get her to start a WP blog with a nice theme ! Squidoo is great for ranking power but all those adds and crap plastered all over kills conversions.

    Get her to check out everything Amazon has to offer on new moms and babys and start as a Amazon seller books, clothes or anythings else.

    If she finds shes ranking for what ever keywords you two choose and making afew Amazon sales upscale it go to commission juction and get some products from there with higher commissions or just stay with Amazon !!

    Here would be the ideal game plan from me.

    Create a blog with WP (Your own hosting,)
    Buy a nice theme, customize it with "mommy" colors etc.

    Just start writing articles, get a twitter/facebook,promote them. Include social bookmarks, possibly guest blogging on other mom blogs? Monetize with Ads from products/services relevant to mothers, or amazon affilates.

    If you go the amazon affiliate route for the the new mom squidoo lens, social proof is going to be vital.

    I suggest she take pictures of her using all of the products she has purchased along the way--with her in the pictures--and discuss the benefits of those products to HER. Video with her and the products in it will be even better.

    This will get her on to a very good start as she develops credibility and trust.

    Firstly congrats on becomming a father! You want to know how to monetize, and that's what I'm here to help you with. Outside of some of the methods listed above there are a few interesting ways of doing things that are a little left field.

    Go to other popular mommy blogs and look at what they are doing to monetize their blog - copy this to some extent with similar methods - if it works for one mommy, it will work for another.

    Go to sales based affiliate marketplaces like ClickBank and search for products advertised. See ones that are converting decently and BUY IT! Yes, actually spend money on that product. Then do a review based around that product - if your traffic is good, you have gained an item for free and will also gain some cash at the same time.

    Reviews of products that someone actually has feel far more natural/organic and convert far better than those that don't.

    Finally, why stop at clickbank? You've got Amazon, Ebay and more that you can focus on if the clickbank method is successful for you (and it will be, as long as the traffic is there).
