How to get traffic in an impossible niche such as dieting

I am a bit of a dieting fanatic. I am also an expert dieter having been on a weight loss diet for 30 years.
So 7 months ago I thought I would start a diet website. After all I am an expert and can write about it all day long.

I was advised that this would be a bad idea as it was way too competitive.

As I am a male I completely ignored this advice and produced a wordpress blog on low calorie diets.

I have posted regularly for 7 months and now have others posting through AMA most days.

Well I am now getting around 150 daily visitors and making good adsense income from the website. The increase over the last month has been like the first part of an exponential graph.

So I would say that persistence and consistency are what have enabled me to achieve this. I am very careful with my own blog posts and the use of good keywords.

If you really know a niche just be prepared to run with it a bit longer before you start to make an impact. Eventually the sheer level of content will work in your favour.

It doesn't seem like a very good diet if you were on it for 30 years? How much weight did you need to lose?

I'm starting to use a range rather than targetting just one thing.

Forum posting, Article Submissions, Directories, Blog comments, Social Bookmarking and Social Networking, you get a spike at first but you soon start to increase in the rankings and build some traffic

Thanks for sharing this with the community... so many people quit after a week... saying, I haven't made any money yet, so it must not work...

To be a success online you need to have persistence and consistency,
just like anything else in life you want to be successful with... you need to build it from the ground up, with a strong frame/foundation.

    Nothing happens overnight.

  • Hi, I competed in sports, and I noticed a trend....I believe fitness is far more Important than diet in most Americans eyes.
I notice many others online think this way also.
In years gone by people dieted, but it still didn't make them feel healthy.
I also ran a top Bodybuilding site years ago and noticed if you combine diet with fitness your traffic results can shoot through the roof.
Today people want to see thier muscles and feel good about themselves.
They want the total package, even women are like this.
Please understand bodybuilding is not always about building huge muscles. but also about just building the best body that each person would like to have, small - med - or Large Muscles, each person has thier own idea of what they feel they need to do to feel good about themselves. I've seen distance runners bodybuild, but they don't want to add a lot of size, they just want to build the best body for the type of sport they do.
It's been proven that distance runners can improve speed ans strength greatly by lifting weights.
So bodybuilding can design type of body a person feels comfortable with. Adding the right food intake in a balanced ratio to protein to carbs is all the dieting people need in my opinion as long as they get the right fiber from foods, I know in many case's, people are very over weight and can't exercise, but what I am talking about here is people in general, the average Joe or American or Mary - trying to get into shape.
Combining 2 programs like this should triple your traffic.

Hope this helps you out..........goodluck buddy, I wish you the best.
