WOW - Blast From The Past

Hey Warriors,

I am on a high right now. I just looked at my first website which I started in early 2004 and left my job in 2007. I am not gonna mention the sites name, but anyways.

It looks very cheesy, something you would shake your head at and say, OMG, how the heck did that work....

What I did not know then:
- I knew nothing about email lists
- I knew nothing about SEO
- I knew nothing about backend sales

What I did know then:
- Create value, charge people for it.
- FOCUS was important.
- Treat it like a business
- Always be marketing
- Go above and beyond to do whatever it takes for customers

I will made a full time income to quit my job. The moral is just do it, dont worry about the details.

I just thought it was cool to see this and hope it motivates you

    Funny you mention this...

    I did a way back machine on one of my first sites...

    To say the least I had animated gifs going nuts and javascript snow falling with a mix of rain.

    Mukul, it doesn't matter how ignorant we are when we first start off, only that we evolve and improve constantly as we learn new things and implement them!

    I remember having a Dragonball Z site and it was awful, but somehow I got a ton of people to it for free because I was only 12 at the time...how did I DO THAT?

    Just continually build on what you know... I don't think there is anyone on here that knows everything - there is so much to learn, and to me this industry is addictive.

    Keep learning, implement what you know and build on it... : )

    You learn way more by doing than by just thinking about it. Newbies, don't get bogged down in worrying about having things perfect. Get started and learn as you go. The mistakes you make on the journey are far more valuable than the perfect vision you continue to revise in your head as you theorize but do nothing.

    Glad to see I am not alone here. It is crazy at what we did and succeeded.

    Just flippin to do it.

    Last night I was at democamp here in Toronto and this will blow you away.

    This presentor who is a University of Toronto student which shapes Collages - Shape Collage - Automatic Photo Collage Maker. I am was like never gonna fly. He is makig $650,000 a year from this, I was FLOORED. I still am. Reminded me not to be a doubter as many did to me ....

    JUST DO IT...FOCUS

      I recently met Dr.William Novick at a conference, the World Congress of

      We both laughed!

      That website was from 1996 - and was on Geocities (HotSprings 1652)
      until it shut down recently

      So true, Mukul - we'll never know unless we focus and actually try it, right? Your example reminds me of the teenager (I believe she was only 14 or 15 when she started) who was designing silly little FREE MySpace templates/pages primarily for girls to use to make their MySpace profiles unique and special. Well, this thing blew up and before she knew it, she was getting thousands of teenaged girls visiting her websites to get these free designs, and pretty soon advertisers came knocking on her door begging to pay her lots of money to place ads on her site!

      If you'd have mentioned this idea to any normal person, they'd think "this is not possible" or "no one's going to pay any attention to this silly little service" and yet, look at what happened. It does take guts and vision to do something when every fiber in your being and everyone else is saying it is too crazy to work, but this is often what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the ones who are too afraid or skeptical to try anything!
