Hostgator Difference in Packages

I may move from my current hosting, I was looking at Hostgator.

1) "Baby Plan" vs "Business Plan"
The more expensive "Business Plan" includes the following:
Anonymous FTP
Private SSL Allowed
Dedicated IP

Is it worth paying the extra for these?

2)"Baby/Business Plan" vs "Reseller Hosting"
Reseller Disk Space = 50 GB
Baby/Business Disk Space = unlimited
Reseller Bandwidth = 500 GB
Baby/Business Disk Space = unlimited

So this means that I get more with the cheaper Baby/Business package. Is this correct or am I missing something.

Is there any advantage to get reseller hosting?

Thanks,
Adam

Shared hosting (baby or business plan) has a secret limit called maximum inodes.
They call it unlimited for marketing purposes. Read the TOS for more info on the inodes.

Reseller hosting has no secret limit, what you see is you get.

Edit: I think reseller hosting also has inode limits maybe just higher

      ^ This.

There isn't really such a thing as "unlimited". They have to have limits written into the contract somewhere, as if they didn't, people would upload huge-ass files and what not, and it wouldn't be long before their business model became scarcely profitable.

So HostGator, in their Terms of Service (as far as I remember), have an "inode" limit, and a maximum file-size limit.

So you can only upload a certain number of files, of a certain size. Multiply the maximum allowable file-size with the inode limit, and you have a rough idea of what your maximum disk space allowance is (files you didn't personally upload, that exist as a result of various operations you carry out in the control panel, could also count towards your inode limit, too, by the way).

Just something that may or may not be important for you to consider, depending on your intended useage.

There are also maximum process limits and DB connection limits on anything that isn't a VPS or higher.

If IPs mean anything to you, you'll get a new IP every time you set up a new cpanel on the reseller - up to about 6 or so.

The big advantage of a reseller account:
it is easy to transfer the entire account to a new user.
Whenn you sell or flip websites that is a great advantage...
I own a reseller account with hostnine already and can choose from 5 servers for my domains.
Will try to get one more reseller account from hostgator today under their promotion

I agree with Lothar, the reseller package does have some advantages regarding being user friendly, especially for newbies who don't have to mess about with sub domains or add on domains.

Also be aware that HG will often disable scripts on the cheaper plans if they are using up too much resources.

Baby plan is great value for mini sites but if you have the budget I would go for the reseller package.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but having a reseller account is also the same like having shared accounts. Reseller has the ability to have many shared accounts, am I not right?

I don't see why they shouldn't disable scripts on your site even if you are using the reseller hosting.

    Thanks everyone.

I decided to go for the reseller. In 2011 I want to add site flipping to my IM repertoire so it seems the best choice.
