For anyone who can give me their best tips on why it's so cool to own your own membership site.

Also any other tips you think might be useful to promote it. (and before anyone starts bitchin about any underhand methods I'm employing, I'm not) It's a genuine offer.

I'm going to bed now, it's late here in the UK, but I'll pick this thread back up (if anyone posted) tomorrow

Cheers

Kim, I don't need the software so if I win, give it to somebody else.

There are many reasons and benefits to run your own membership site but
I'll just focus on two of them.

    1. Residual Income - You make one sale and if the service you're selling is
really top notch, you could have a member for many years. This is a great
way to earn an income for doing something one time and getting paid for it
    over and over again.

    2. Built In List - With product sales, you don't necessarily get a list member
for the life of the product. For example, if I sell an ebook, even if I make
people opt in to get it, they can always opt out and they have no reason
to opt in again. They have the book and don't need to remain on my list.
However, with a member site, for them to continue getting the benefits of
the membership, they have to stay on your list to get news, updates or
    whatever.

That whatever can also include sales pitches to other products of yours.

Running a membership site is a lot of work, especially if you're running
something like a PLR site where you have to supply content each month.
Even sites like Aweber must be a lot of work in order to maintain the
system itself. I'm sure Tom has his hands full plenty of times whenever
    there are upgrades or changes.

But I think the benefits of a membership site, primarily the two I've listed
    above, far outweigh the negatives.

I already have Launch Formula Marketing and Amember plus also using CMS (Jooomla, Drupal). So while I think EasyMemberPro would be nice, I think I'm more than equipped.

But just to add on to the thread, here are some more reasons:

      1. Continuity program is one of the most profitable business model around

      2. Make the sales once - and you are set for more income down the road.

      3. Easier to build list and affiliates

      4. You can better get members to participate in forum, and in the process, building a good community, relationship and content.

      5. With a membership site, you have a good base to promote other people's product and earn a good complementary side income (relevant and good product of course).

      6. Higher perceived value than ebooks.

Yep, that's about some of the major reasons why you should start your own membership site.

A membership site is so cool because you get cash month after month as long as your costumers stay with you!

There is no better way to make money online than to have your own membership site where you can get so many customers and collect their cash every single month.

It's so cool to own your own membership site because...

Multiple memberships means you can provide your members exceptionally high value with a low entry fee.

You build a community, not just a list.

Conducting market research is now easy and nearly free.

The end of speculation: you know who will be using your product and when it needs to be finished.

Your customers become your best salespeople.

              Supports building long-term relationships.

May give you the freedom to pursue products with longer development cycles.

Promotes the improvement and enhancement of existing products rather than a string of one-off creations.

...at least, these are the things I thought of when I closed my eyes and imagined running my own membership site with a top-notch program like easymemberpro.

I've been pondering converting one of my websites to a membership program for 3 reasons.

      1) I want to be able to control the release of several products and classes over a period of time and with a membership site I can control these releases as long as my members remain active.

      2) The ability to communicate news and events is easier through a member email system.

      3) I believe the value of a product, class or news support system has more credibility when offered through a "Private Members Only" system.

Can easy member pro offer this?

          Hi Kim,

I could really use the software, so here's mine.

          Regular income

          Customers to market to

          Develop expert recognition

          Affiliates love to sell memberships

          User generated content
          Contests, comments, forums,

Poll your members to provide desired products for them

          Deep connection to your market.

Offer/sell consultations to members and put audio up on site as an expert corner. The consultation could also be a prize for user generated content.

Google loves the constantly added content. Another reason to promote user generated content -- google candy.

          How to promote:

          First month free

Low cost beginner series that increases to full membership

          Affiliates

Give away rights with whitepapers, ebooks etc. Market membership site in them.

"Give-away" DVD or CD. Charge $5.77, covers everything and qualifies prospect

Take parts of the first few months material and compile a give away for a squeeze page.

          Video squeeze page

Depending on how things are set up, you can try to get on google's news search, very hot if you can do it.

Have a blog connected with the site. It can be used to entice customers come in, and google likes them.

          That shoud get you started.

            Hi Kymi,

Thank you for this wonderful offer!

One reason membership sites are so compelling is because they really cement your relationship with your members.

Don't you feel closer to your membership site members than you do to a list built with freebie gifts or even a list of your paid clients who bought something from you?

It works the other way around, too. When you are a member of a membership site that is bringing you more benefits every month, don't you feel closer to the owner of this site than one who gave you a freebie to build his list? Don't you feel more like they deserve your respect and attention than one who happened to sell you a product that they may or may not have written themselves?

The closer contact with your membership site members builds a stronger relationship. Who is more likely to buy from you?

So a membership site will not only bring you recurring income, but the closer relationship with your members will also generate more back end sales, too.

Another thing that a membership site can bring to you is more authority. You become more respected in your niche as an authority on the subject if you are providing unique information or services to your clients on a continuing basis. When you build more and more authority, you garner more trust in the niche, which generates more and more sales.

And speaking of trust, this is another one of the benefits of a member site, because your own members already trust you and your advice. You don't have to jump that hurdle like you do with brand new customers to a single sales site.

All things considered, using the membership site model can catapult you to success in a niche faster and more completely than single sales.

With a Membership site, you will be able to focus just on that and make it valuable so you can have customers for a long time.

The only thing that would be necessary, would be to drive traffic and Convert them into customers.

                  That's all.

A membership site - a true membership site - is more than just a conduit for sucking up funds. Why do we <ourselves> become members of sites?

                    We want information.
                    >good, accurate information
                    We want value
                    >our money's worth, and then some
                    We want community
                    >a way to share and validate

So, a true membership site will be
***a source of information that is worth the cost of membership in a venue where communication among
                    all is open and fluid,

This is truly an instance where "if you build it, they will come."

Kim, thanks, I'm honored, but I'm lousy at picking winners LOL. So I think
I'll leave that unpleasant task to you. That way I don't have to worry
about getting a bunch of PMs with bribes (though that may not be the
most horrible thing). Still, then I'd have to figure out which bribe was the
best one, and that's another thing I'm terrible at. So no, this wouldn't work
                        at all.

But thanks for choosing my post. It's a great way to start the day.

    Hey Kymi!

    How are you doing?

OK... here's my stance on it...

    1. When you run a membership site, especially the one with live shows and videos and audios, you are constantly in touch with your customers. Now, the principle of OOSIOOM... out of sight is out of mind is exceptionally true online. with people on your list, you relationship is basically dependent upon whether or not they open your email! And you are basically hoping that they open your emails. But if they are your "members" in your paid membership area, they ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FORWARD to your emails.

    2. Great Relationship Builder: <== They obviously get to see more of you, but they also get to see a different side of your personality. So if the content is great along with being personal, they actually start feeling related to you! They start feeling as if they knowyou when you are sharing details like "I hate R*o*d bull because it's so dumb" and "I love the Canyon Mall because of the "beautiful" ambiance there, then they start feeling as if they know you a lot.

Now this might be accomplished to a certain extent thorugh your "products and OTO's and obviously your list as well", but then with a membership site, these things are coming at a regular basis!

    3. Security and Belonging... <== its actually a sense of belonging to a particular "community" of people who share interests and have similar aspirations, then there is obviously a sense of belonging. And with belonging comes the sense of "Security". Now since you are the leader, you are in a much better position to demonstrate the amount of authority you have over other websites.

    4. Recurring commission: Enough has been said already.... so far so good.

I think these things actually make a membership site VERY COOL.

I think there's one major benefit that no one has mentioned so far. I'm not after the software but it's something I think everyone is missing. Your initial product improves *every* month.

At any time people can pretty much sign up for a single month. Read/download everything in your membership site and then cancel (if they're really dishonest they'll even ask for a refund) but this is a good thing. These people wouldn't have bought one months stuff for one months price. But they will spend one months price for your entire back catalog.

Don't view these as lost sales and get annoyed that they took so much for so little. See it as leaving less money on the table. You wouldn't have sold to these guys any other way.

Well, here's what I've decided since I've been put in an impossible situation.

There are 3 posts that I feel are equally deserving so since I can't choose
between them, I'm going to accept the copy myself.

        Let the bribes begin

Thanks Kim. I'm currently trying to regenerate my Free Link Cloaker list with lots of good offers and give aways. Would you mind if I ran a competition to win it through there?

        Cheers,

        Andy

No problem Andy, just let me know when you want to claim it.

I didn't realise it was you who had free cloak linker, I just downloaded it again yesterday to put on another site. (I love it). In fact I recommended it in an earlier post somewhere

          Cheers

          Hi All,

Even though the contest is over, I'd like to add my buck and a half.

Everyone posted with emphasis on the benefits of owning your own membership site, which I am in total agreement with the majority of the positives.

My post will focus on the tips...

Before running headlong into slapping up a membership site, you really need to put some thought into what you're going to be offering and how it will be delivered.

I know there have been a lot of different membership software products offered within the last couple of years. I have actually purchased a couple of them, and have mixed reviews on what type of quality I received in both the product and the service after the sale.

You really need to consider your membership software carefully, and think about how your site may grow, and take different directions in the future. Picking the wrong membership software to begin with can substantially hamper the success of your membership site if it cannot give you the features to implement new ideas, such as new services to your members.

So my tip about the membership software is to select a software which has a track record for both handling the job correctly, and having the service behind it when you need it.

My next tip may seem like common sense, but sometimes we all have brain fades. Select a good hosting plan which will meet the needs of the above mentioned software which you have now meticulously chosen. Get enough space to hold all of your files, and enough bandwidth so that your clients are not left holding the bag because your bad decision in hosting has ran out of bandwidth from your members watching all those great videos you uploaded.

My final tip is to get everything going, and then adjust your membership while in progress. Just with other types of websites, many individuals will try to get everything the point of absolute perfection. You're not perfect, and neither will your product be perfect at any point, so get the blasted thing going and then tweak and prod everything in order. Allow your members to give all the input they want, so then you'll know in which direction to go, saving you all the guesswork and providing content that will be happy to pay for month after month.

Happy, paying members... That is what we want after all, is it not?

Anywhoo... I hope my comments help someone who may be sitting on the fence, or stuck at the starting line.

          The best to you,
          Dennis Wagoner

      Hi Kim,

Didn't read through all the previous posts, but it seems like the first few that I read hit on some key points.

In addition to the benefits previously offered, such as the opportunity to build a residual income, build a list, and so forth, there's one benefit that I think would be very appealing to newbies (again I haven't read through all the posts with a fine tooth comb, so forgive me if this has been mentioned previously).

Why would this be so great for newbies? A couple of reasons, really:

      > you can actually begin promoting it as a prelaunch without yet having the initial product base fully populated. Thus, you can get some capital up front, prior to launch date, and use the capital to cover expenses of hosting, membership software, PLR products, site design, and so forth. So it not only has the potential of being very lucrative, but can be set up without a huge initial outlay of cash - which can be very difficult for the IM newcomer to manage.

      > Due to the periodic nature of a membership venture, the newbie has time to gather products for the next month, procure some testimonials from satisfied customers, develop some JVs with product developers, and so forth. It's a terrific way to build a business without the pressure of a single -point, make-or-break product launch date.

      > if the prelaunch is done properly, you will have generated a nice list even before the membership launches. What a great opportunity to build relationships of trust, so that when it is time to do some marketing, you already have a receptive, trusting audience.

      Just my thoughts on it.
