WordPress Tutorials for Beginners.

I think it is very easy to forget how we all started out and how a lot of the daily functions that we perform that are so easy to us are difficult to others. So as a professional Internet Marketer and IT Trainer I thought I would add some value and put some short free tutorials here to help those who are starting out using WordPress.

They won't be in any order, just as I think of them:

Changing the Permalink Structure to improve your SEO

Having your blog title in the URL will always improve your results with the search engines but WordPress creates unfriendly URLs if you don’t change the Permalink Structure when you first install WordPress

e.g www.mydomainname.com/?page_id=6

Ideally what you want is something like:

www.mydomainname.com/gardentips if garden tips were to be one of your keywords.

The permalink structure controls how the URL is formatted on your WordPress blog.

To configure the structure Select the Settings option displayed to the left of your WordPress screen and you will notice a list of options will be displayed.

Select Permalinks

The Permalinks Settings page will be displayed

The option I use is the Custom Structure radio button

Type %postname% in the Custom Structure field

This will add the blog title to the end of your URL, without including any unnecessary numbers or other useless characters.

If you are uncomfortable with this, then the next best option is to select the Date and name based option. This will add the blog title but also the date posted.

Select the <Save Changes> button when you have finished typing

You should then get a confirmation message displayed that informs you that the Permalink structure has been updated.

Hope this is useful and let me know what other things you would like to know.
