Where to Hire a VA?

INTERNET MARKETING

I'm planning to hire another V, to take on some extra work and also to help a bit with continuity in case my current VA disappears, is ill, generates super-human powers and quits to fight crime etc.

With my first VA I tried a few established companies, and settled on one after the third try.

However, this time I want to do my typical hiring method which is to get a few hundred applicants and scrub it down to the best few.

So I have a few sites which I normally hit, but wondering if you guys have any suggestions...

I normally hit:

vWorker
eLance
Freelancer

I know there are some specialist VA sites out there, so hit me with your recommendations. Muchas Gracias.

Try VA4u.com. Or a new great site for consistent VAs mypowerboss.com or peppervirtualassistants.

Usually oDesk is the most reliable.

I will suggest you using oDesk, its more reliable than Elance and Freelancer. I am offering services there at oDesk and it is comparatively better in saving interest of both Employer and Employee than any other freelancing platform.

Hi Chris,

I suggest to try an outsourcing firm/company. Those sites are all freelance sites.
An outsourcing has bigger advantages than hiring an individual.

i got some of my VAs from easyoutsource.

some on odesk and some on other sites.

Just have to test them no matter where you hire them from.

If i need a position filled, i hire 3 and take the best one for long term

My vote is oDesk.

It's not always where you go, it's how you approach it.

Be sure to check out other posted VA jobs for ideas and include as much detail as you can about the position.

I used to hire like you, wait for hundreds of applicants and cull them right down to the best two, but this wasn't working for me. I now place a private add and search the "top candidates", I sort by price and find some excellent workers for the price range I want to pay them.

I then ask about 10 people to apply for the job. About 5 normally accept and they are all great quality. I usually split-test all of them at once before culling them down until I have the perfect candidate.

I hope I have saved some people some time with my method

I now place a private add and search the "top candidates", I sort by price and find some excellent workers for the price range I want to pay them.

That is something I do also when the option is available. I will still encourage applicants from a wider source as you never know who you will find. My existing VA now handles all the initial filtering by sending a set of questions that they will need to answer correctly, plus some other criteria.

If hiring directly the key is to try and test multiple people with a test that is really similar to what they will be doing in their actual job. For example if they are a VA, give them a test that will ask them questions based on what they would actually do as your VA. Odesk is great also Remotestaff.biz, vworker are the best. Also try using software like Time Doctor to manage the staff member.

If you are satisfied with your current VA why not ask him/her for a referral? That's how I got all my VAs.

I use warrior for hire.

But have had the most success with elance.

If you tell your outsourcee exactly what you want, in step by step like you are talking to a baby, you will get the best results. Just saying.
