What is the best use of a $200/month budget?

Some background:

I have one website that is currently promoting clickbank products. It makes $20-$30 per month. I haven't touched it in a year. It took about 4 months to build the site and get it ranked, and I learned a lot - there are a lot of things that I would do differently were I to do it again.

I'm thinking that I want to do more websites promoting affiliate products because I feel like I know how to do that and know how to make it make money.

I'm looking for the best way to use the money to save myself some time so that I can try to start cranking out these sites at a faster pace than one every 4 months. How would you spend $200/month to do this? Senuke? Uaw? Outsourcing article writing? Something else?

thanks,
Neill

It really depends on what takes you the most time or drains you out personally.

Personally, article writing takes me a very long time and I outsource it to a new Warrior member (AllyChurch), she is very good at quality writing for cheap.

Otherwise, you can outsource to the Phillipines or through oDesk etc.

If SEO or backlinking eats away at your time too much, outsource that to an SEO company or spend some time interviewing and hiring people through oDesk/Phillipines etc as a lot of people here do.

It's all about making decisions that help your business.

Work ON your business, not IN it.

Don’t spend anything yet. Read many posts here in this forum until you’ll learn what could really help you. Only after having a serious marketing plan and after knowing what you are doing, should you use the money you have, to improve your business.

You’ll simply waste money if you’ll act without having a very clear business plan in mind. Study, and learn. Then relate everything you’ll learn, and find out what will surely be better for you.

The reason the first site that I built took so much time was because I had absolutely no plan when I started - I just started implementing things, seeing what worked, and doing more of that. This was effective but extremely time consuming.

I feel like I know what works for me. I know what drains me the most - article writing and link building. I am trying to come up with a plan that spends a set budget effectively so that I can maximize the use of my time.

I don't have as much time now as I did when I built the last site, but I have more money. I want to use some of that money to speed up the process just a little.

Any suggestions on how to create my own product? I feel like this would be a drastic change from current plans. I really wouldn't know where to begin.

The only thing I really know a lot about is technology. I guess I could create computer help products and put them on clickbank? Then create a site promoting my own product and hope for affiliates? Or do I actively try to find affiliates?

Funny how just thinking out loud (or on the forums) can generate ideas that I probably wouldn't have come up with on my own. The more I typed right there, the more I realized it might actually be a good idea.

How does one actively find affiliates? This is the one thing in all of this that I know literally nothing about.

I don't really feel comfortable putting my name on and selling something that I didn't create. If I am going to create a product, it's going to be something that I wouldn't mind if my grandmother bought it.

Maybe once I have created one or two products and have and have a good system for making it work, then I would feel ok outsourcing. This could be especially effective for getting into niches that I don't know a whole lot about. I always like to do things once myself before I pay someone else to do them for me though.

Creating products can be extremely simple, whether you have the expertise in a specific topic or not. If you have the expertise, then get a free 30 day trial of Camtasia and create some video tutorials that solve a problem in the topic that you know best.

Spend the $200 on getting the audio in your videos transcribed... then you have a nice info product with video and PDFs.

If you do not have the expertise, then find someone who does (or several people that do) and record interviews of them. Get the interviews transcribed and again you have a nice info product.

I have found that the best way to make good money online is to have your own products.

Want affiliates? Make a good resource PDF that gives 10 tips and 10 top resources (you can make this more in depth if you want) that can help people find what solutions to this problem. Everyone likes organized lists that give them value. Give this PDf away for free. Tell affiliates that you have a great resource that will give value to their subscribers.

Have affiliates send traffic to an optin page that gives away your free PDF. Put the link to the free download on a thank you page. Under the link write promotional copy that promotes your video series or audio series.

            Let them buy.

Pay a commission to the affiliate.

Great thread! I did something different. I ran a contest using contest burner and awarded a $200 cash prize and this is what happened.
        • 3,280 people joined my facebook fanpage and growing.
        • 1285 posts on facebook comments were linked to my site.
        • 451 people subscribed to my sites' newsletter.
        • 5238 comments were made about my site on other sites linking back to my site.
        • 547 tweets about my site
        • 380 followers on Twitter
        • 622 other social sites linked to my site.
        • 49 articles were written for me about my site with my links in the resource box by people I do not know.
        • 12 of those articles were republished on other sites.
        • 20 people subscribed to my youtube channel and some left comments with my links in them.
        • Sales increased from $120/month to about $900/month!
        • Traffic increased from 2000 hits a month to 35,000 hits a month.
Anyways, it is a different approach but seems to work very well. I mean people are writing articles and backlinking for me. What more could I want?
I really feel like I got my $200 worth and will be running more contests in the future. I did not include any links here because I am not pitching anything but if you want to see an example, PM me.

This thread is exactly the kind of info we need to make best use of our time and money. Thanks for starting it.

With a small budget like that i would buy a monthly backlink package from backlinkteam.com or hire a dedicated team on ODesk and manage them.

Hi, everyone in this forum said about oDesk to find the dedicated team to optimize sites.

Do you all have the guidance how to find the dedicated team and manage them?

If you dont know much about ODesk you should go to backlinkteam.com as they will manage the team for you and their rates are only a dollar above that per man hour. Hope that helps.

On oDesk, you are going to be mainly dealing with freelancers, so if you want a dedicated "team" you'll have to assemble it yourself using the various people you can find there!

      1. I do this already.
      2. My work matches my contribution of 5% of my salary for savings.

The $200 is my budget for Internet business. I have other budgets for other things (bills, mortgage, entertainment, etc.) I was trying to see what the general consensus was for how I could best use this money to accelerate my Internet business. Not just, "Oh look I have $200. What should I do with it?"

I would buy article marketing robot or scrapebox. You can dominate the SERPS with just those 2 tools. I think both would just be under $200 or a little over.

That would take care of the money for the first month. The second month's budget would be spent on buying domains and using scrapebox/Article marketing robot to build backlinks and get your site #1.

Its a time vs profit tradeoff

if you can handle the outsourcing of backlinks, then that's really the best rather doing everything on your own. You dont have to outsource everything though so you better have a plan ready.

For example, if you paid for senuke, thats already over half of your monthly budget. Then you probably have to crank out articles to make the most of it and you'll end up with less new sites finished.

Look at the big picture, plan ahead, outsource, PROFIT.

IMHO, the best use of that $200 would be for outsourcing the article writing. That is typically the most mind-numbing and tedious activity in the process of churning out multiple websites like what you intend to do.

The rest of the activities can be done relatively quickly, and I'd classify them as mechanical processes without much variance to them, so this is something you could do yourself.

If you truly have at least $200 to spend each month on this, you could consider dividing it between SENuke and article writing. SENuke would help to automate some of the tedious backlinking work (though not as tedious as article writing, at least in my opinion).

    Thanks guys- Good thread!

Simple information- but it's often the simple things that are the best and keep working time and time again. You can afford to take onboard more complicated methods when you can do exactly that... Afford too!

    IMO

    - Focus on article marketing and backlinks
    - Outsource where you can (but it's good to have a sound understanding of what you’re having outsourced so that you're aware of the quality your receiving)
    - Save a % of your budget for any unexpected issues that may/do arise
    - Definitely study first, create a solid plan (in writing) and then implement it (before getting sidetrack)
    - Split test, measure, replicate superior methods throughout and repeat.

    Good luck to all!

Why not spend the money on paid advertising for your current website, it's seems to convert traffic and your only using organic traffic sources it seems.

I'd do a quick test with some pay per click traffic and see what the conversion result was before I started moving onto other sites.

Article marketing can help you a lot in increasing your revenue. It would be better if you get article submitted in top article sites like ezinearticles. If you do some linkbuilding for your ezinearticles link then it will get ranked very easily as compare to if you put the same put article on your own site.

Pretty much everyone here is giving you spot on advice that you should outsource. I'd just add that instead of going out and grabbing an article writer or a backlinks team on our advice; sit back a moment and figure out exactly what it is you absolutely despise doing in your online marketing career. There has to be one thing that makes you cringe. For me it's backlinks, I frikin' hate those bloody things. For you it may be writing, blog commenting, e.t.c...

Once you know what you can't stand, that 1 single thing that has you walking away from the screen before you should - THAT is the thing you should spend your 200.00 per month budget outsourcing. It will exponentially increase your productivity because you will be freed up to do MORE of what you actually love doing online, while getting the nonsense completed elsewhere.

Exactly, by outsourcing the tasks that he doesn't find pleasant or rewarding he can then concentrate on the tasks that he enjoys, and this will enable him to exponentially increase his productivity as a result. He'll be focused and passionate about his work and this will dramatically improve his results. He won't be dragged down by the work that he finds unpleasant and a chore.

If these unpleasant tasks are outsourced, I'm pretty sure he'll be able to take his business to the next level, and grow by leaps and bounds! This is the secret to the success behind many of the Gurus as well - after all, we all only have 24 hours per day, so why not use it to accomplish tasks that you're skilled at, and are passionate about? Not only will you get so much more done, you'll be so much happier and more fulfilled.

WSO x 5. You must have a good landing page or opt in page to capture leads. That's what I will do.

Alternatively, you can outsource article rewriting service @ $1 an article. That will be 200 articles in a month!!!

Yes you can outsource but try to learn before doing so. It can be a tedious task to manage a team so maybe hire a virtual assistant first who can write for you and hire other people who'll be a part of your team. Saves 70% of your time.

Having a targeted list allows you to sell and resell your subscribers. I use mobile marketing and have built a 700 person list for $100 in 24 hours (check the sig). This is the cheapest (0.03 cents/click) and fastest (1100 clicks in an hour some days) traffic source currently available.

As far as creating your own product, forget Clickbank at first. Create cheaper reports that focus on specific problems (think "For Dummies" books and sell them direct with PayPal at $7-$17). This is instant cash, no set up fees, and low commissions. My $7 mobile marketing guide is selling like gangbusters right now and I get the money instantly.

You can also offer affiliate commissions using special scripts to give them a % (I offer 100% commissions but I get the names and emails of the buyers thereby growing my list even more).

Check out my stuff and drop me a line (I used templates for everything and it makes my life a lot easier). As you can see, I left out the glitzy headers and footers that we all see way too often. This approach is working even with Facebook traffic because it is simple and to the point.

If you are really good at computers, then make one guide on setting up a complete network or interfacing your media center computer with the home theater and the blender. I don't know, just find something you can write 30-50 pages on (including screenshots or videos) and post it on a decent landing page. Then do the SEO and backlinks.

Check out the "For Dummies" web page, Clickbank, eHow and similar sources to get an idea of what kind of computer related (and other) products are being sought. I write for eHow and they are SEO masters, they also only request articles that have keywords (specific problems) with a decent search volume. Do you think the "For Dummies" guys just write whatever? Nope, they do some crazy market research to see what is going to sell, sell, sell.

I also have the same budget but will wait until I learn the basics myself so I would know more about the things I want to outsource.
Many good tips here, thanks from me too!

    Frank Tocco,

I would like more details about your contest idea.
    Please PM me.

Wow! This thread has grown into something a lot larger than I thought it would.

I now have a plan (it's written in black ink an piece of printer paper sitting in front of me right now).

What's my plan, you say? Maybe I'll share it once I've given it a go. I don't think I've seen anyone doing exactly what I'm thinking of doing before. Could be good. Could be bad.

So, for me, the MOST MISERABLE TASK EVER is backlinking. I have taken you guys' advice and am working on a way to outsource, automate, and make it a painless as possible.

    Again, THANK YOU EVERYONE!

    Neill

HA! Backlinks of Doom! Yep, I'd rather crawl across a desert of glass than do those suckers. For outsourcing SEO in general you may want to check out Dadamson. (Do a forum search for that name) I get the impression his company SEOjuice is pretty straightforward and reputable - and most of all white hat.

One option would be to create an aweber account, build opt in pages giving free stuff away to build list, use some paid advertising, outsource some article marketing & perhaps some backlink building and build email follow ups providing free quality content and affiliate offers - perhaps do reviews of new products and give reasons why they should or should not buy them

If you are making 20-30 per month through seo, I'd either work on the site adding more content and doing seo to it,

or replicate the first site (the 2nd one is always quicker/easier to make) and have 4,5 similar sites generating the same income; outsource what takes you a long time to do
