Did You Discuss Your Internet Marketing Business And Goals With The Family On Thanksgiving Or Was It Hush Hush? If You Did How Do They Respond?

I Will Chime In After Your Comments On What My Family Said And How Interested They Were?

That is not something that came up in conversation, nor would I direct any talk that way.

What I did do was attempt to help my SIL market her new Christmas CD online, and her new website, for more visibility and traffic before the holiday. As with most folks, they may have many passions, but marketing online is just a different world to them.

Even a little education in on-site SEO helps in these sitations.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving yourself!

No I didn't discuss interent marketing goals today. My family is not very supportive so I don't really tell them what I'm doing. They basically hear the word "online" and associated it with the word "scam."

lol, a lot of people have this mindset.

Luckily for me, my friends and family are quite open to it.

I guess when they see some cheques their mindset automatically switches.

    My relatives do not understand.
It's not part of their world, and trying to educate them it is a waste of time. (been there done that)

It actually kind of created an awkward moment for me today when someone brought it up. I'd stay away from discussing any business matters with family. There's no point.

Well as mentioned above with family, or friends, seeing the money you're making or actual checks, from lets say Clickbank etc. Actual proof makes all the difference, it's when you say you're doing internet marketing but only spend too much money instead of making to much money.

I gave two family members a free membership to my IM coaching and because of that had 5 other family members actually pay the monthly fees for the six month course. So like in everything in life is about results.

NO RESULTS, hard for anyone to believe you!

Yesterday, I sent an e-mail to a business party I am negotiating a six-figure acquisition with. The person replied that it was Thanksgiving, and he was spending time with his family, so he would respond to me tomorrow.

An hour later, he sent me a terse e-mail answering most of my questions and closing it with a statement hoping that I appreciated him taking the time to reply instead of enjoying his Thanksgiving.

I thanked him for his time - and noted that it is entirely normal and appropriate for professionals in this industry to be working during public holidays and neglecting their families (especially when six-figure amounts are concerned).

Bottom line is, a public holiday is just another day - and money never sleeps.

We do not celebrate thanksgiving that much here in Germany.
Would have a similar discussion at new year here.
But maybe can learn what is shared here.

My family asks what I am up too and Internet marketing aspect comes up. I tell them (those that do not know exactly what I do) I tell them. Then they ask how much money are you making? My response: I am doing well? How well? When I tell them they get more and more interested.

When your doing well monetarily family members seem to get more and more interested and ask more and more questions. Next time I will keep my mouth shut seems like the safest bet! :p

I sat next to my niece's 11 and 8 year old and they bought up the topic of how much they loved blogging online. From there we got into a discussion of how blogs can make money etc.

It was interesting to see the creative thinking process they had...one wanted to make tools to "blow things up" (not that, that is a good thing - just different than how I think). The other was focused on how to use the net to earn income.

The problem with discussing your "go it alone" business with anyone who has a J-O-B is that they internally justify their own position by criticising yours, and feel happy doing so because they have some ammunition that they've seen on TV or read about or they simply fall back on the fact that everyone's brought up to be a servant for someone else.

The bottom line? Who cares? Just get on and make a success of it for you and your family.

    Cheers,

    Neil
