Have a WP Blog...Now What?

Hi to all Warriors!
Perhaps you guys and gals would take a quick look at my blog...and give this overwhelmed and frustrated newbie some sound advice....knowing time is precious, I would be forever thankful for a nudge or two in the right direction...

I started out specifically focussed on one company in March 2010, got caught up in the biz by a friend, knew absolutely nothing about blogging, IM, online biz...

I managed to sell a subscription to the company I was writing about...2 months after starting the blog...got excited and started reading, buying all kinds of hype from "gurus", needless to say I am quite spent with all the options out there...

I am thinking to expand my blog into a online passive investing "go to" selling info, books and subscriptions to researched and safe passive investing platforms...

I would really appreciate input from warriors as I am spinning my wheels not really sure which direction to go in...Please help...

Hi Derrick,

just a quick heads up: Your post left me rather confused (and I guess other warriors might have had the same problem). It would probably help if you'd mention your market and what exactly you want to do with that blog.

A few quick impressions about your blog:

Assuming you want to make money from it, I'm not really sure how you are doing that...

On the main page, there is a big guarantee image (bad quality, btw) which is not clickable (that was the first thing I tried).

Then there is a link to a company's page and you tell me to enter your sales rep ID etc there (why should I??).

When I go to that company web site, I can do a couple of things: a) enter my email address to get a newsletter, and b) I can enter more personal data to earn 5% of whatever monthly. There's not even a place where I could enter your sales rep ID if I wanted to.

So: How are you going to make any money from me?

On the "company info" part of your blog, there are two logos and a banner. The upper logo is not linked to anything. The lower logo is called "YOUR-NAME sign up for more info link", but it's only linked to the graphics file itself, not to any sign up link. The banner at the bottom isn't linked to anything at all.

Those were just my very quick first impressions. I don't know much about your market, i.e. I can't give you any advice on how to monetize that topic. But from a common sense point of view, there are hardly any chances for you to make money from me.

  Unfortunately, I have the same feelings.
  
  I just can't figure out what its supposed to be about other than some commodity MLM perhaps? But nowhere to go that lets you make money, and the images don't look right, they don't lead anywhere...
  
  Start by making sure the banners are set up right. Link them to where they're supposed to go. And see about improving the quality as right now it just doesn't look professional at all. You can get Xheader for free and make some really good looking banners with it.

I agree with the comments listed above. Your blog has good potential, but it needs some redesign work and better content. As of now, it is not going to found by the search engines. Also, with the way it is currently set up, customers will click off the page rather promptly. Best wishes to you.

@ milkyway, sanssecret, LauraJames ---Thank you for taking the time to review and comment...finally I am getting some honest critique...I know it's a mess, am overwhelmed with all the info and I am grateful for your advice - Have been limited as to what I can do- knowledge and I also just realized that I HAVE to host outside of WP in order to monetize in any way...I will make those changes you all recommended...Thank you so much...feel like I have some clarity and direction now...

  I have recently built a site in a similar niche - feel free to take a look and see if it gives you any ideas. It'll be changing as I add new graphs and charts but it's built on wordpress also so you might see how I've done something you've been thinking of etc... Pearl Fisher Investment

  The hosting company irrelevant. I use 4 different hosts randomly - Wordpress works on all of them.
  
  Right now it's only monetised by a paid newsletter. (I thought the big 'upgrade to premium' button might have given it away (currently have 400 members, 200 of them paying monthly) but it's only been live for 1 month and not marketed yet because there's a lot of work going on to bring in and present new market analysis data.
  
  No offers made to the list at all - all they get is financial analysis and alerts when we make trades.
