Could Someone Explain "Pinging" to me?

Hi Warriors,

I hear people talk about pinging all the time but I don't really know what it is, how to do it, or when you're supposed to do it.

I would love it if someone could explain this to me!

    Hi..pinging is just like we tell search engine that or website have new content..I thing that's all I can explain..

    It isn't complicated, all it does is basically inform the search engines like Google that a site has been updated.

      Yup, read above, go to pingomatic or similar and enter the info required.

      Just a way of spreading what you've posted around the blog network...so to speak.

    Thank you for posting this inquiry. I remember finding this information previously about this topic:

    A ping helps you to inform other services which collect information about your feeds and list them into their database. These services have a list containing recently updated websites.
    Also, you must be aware of the fact that pinging won't deliver direct traffic to your website. It will simply generate indirect traffic to your pages by sending requests to other services which are using feeds for content.

    Please note that some people advocate pinging, while others are against the practice. There is more information at ipings.com. I found an interesting article there called To Ping or Not To Ping. I hope it is OK to add the link to this discussion. Best wishes to you.

    As others have said, when you place your website address in a pinging website like pingler and pingomatic, you are telling the search engines and other websites in the ping network that you have added new content to your site. With this, people can easily locate your site when they search those sites with the keywords that you used to optimize your page. Hope this helps.
