Please STOP Digging Up 2 Year Old Posts

This is getting ridiculous already. There is a thread of mine that is over 2
years old that is back on page 1 of this forum. Worse than that, all current
replies, for whatever reason, aren't even showing up.

Must be a bug somewhere.

Please folks. We have enough current info to discuss without digging up
2 year old posts.

Will a mod PLEASE send that thread back to where it belongs. I have no
idea how it even got bumped with no replies showing after 2008.

Steven, I'm guessing that the post that resurrected the thread has been deleted. And the reason why responses aren't showing is probably because the thread is on its way back to the vaults

    Steven,
Someone mentioned it in another thread. Guess someone found it interesting.

Dang, I didn't even notice the thread was 2 years old. Even so, I'm glad it was brought back up, otherwise I would have never seen it.

It may have been me. Someone linked to your thread and I found it interesting. The last thing I thought to do was look at the date. It was linked to in a post someone made today.

    Chris,

There's no problem with it, as long as the new post adds value, as you say. The majority of these incidents are link spammers, but that doesn't appear to be the case this time.

It is weird that the new posts aren't available. Something glitched with that thread.

Edit: The glitch appears to have worked itself out. And it was indeed a link spammer who pulled the thread back to the top. The new posts do add significant info, though, so that worked out okay this time.

Something glitched on Steven's other thread too. It must just be Steven.

But Steven really... To prevent this from happening in the future, the mods might need to delete the Search button...

Is that really in our best interests??

I was searching for traffic techniques and I mentioned it in one of my posts. I didn't even notice the date, just the good information.

Also, don't threads get bumped if they are thanked?

I can understand your concern/disapproval, Steven, but I will say this:

I've been trawling through some old threads/discussions recently (I haven't resurrected any myself, though, of course) and was thinking that many of them seemed be of greater substance, depth and interest than many of the "low-level question" threads that seem to be dominating this place (and this section of the forum in particular) as of late. No disrespect to the WarriorForum or its members, of course ... just an observation.

So I can't say it necessarily bothers me too much personally, to see some of them rise from the grave - though again, I do appreciate that it does bother others.

    Mike,

Thanks button hits don't bump a thread. As far as the rest... don't worry about it. It's not a problem. Well, the spammer is, but people replying after he bumped the thread aren't. Nor is bumping an old thread with updated information that's relevant.

Actually, it's not a non issue.

        1. When I first spotted the thread, I noticed no new posts showing. This
led me to believe that the initial culprit must have been a auto spammer.

        2. If we just let old posts get resurrected for no reason and do nothing
about it (unless something valuable is added to the thread) the forum
gets overrun by them and the people with current concerns and questions
end up getting buried on page 2 and don't get their questions answered.

Sorry, but this is far from a non issue.

Unless it's pure spam I think it's the right thing to do - after all, whenever someone asks a question that's been asked a million times before, some people hand their ass to them on a silver platter for not "using the search function" so let's praise them for doing that this time

I often see old threads I'd missed being resurrected - lots of new people joining, so there's no harm in it IMO unless I'm missing something.

Wouldn't it be ironic if this thread were to be buried and someone brought it back 2 years later?

*Makes a note to bump this thread in 2 years, then realizes the date will be 2012*

Indeed. That's why I put an entry on my Google Calendar to remind me on November 26, 2012 to resurrect this thread.

Anything you write in this thread will be revealed to the people of the future on 11/26/12. What would you like to tell the people from the future?

Steven: Try a relaxing breath pattern, you want your exhales to be twice as long as your inhales:

        Inhale, two, three, four; Exhale, two, three, four, five six seven, eight; Inhale, two, three, four; Exhale, two, three, four, five six seven, eight; Inhale, two, three, four; Exhale, two, three, four, five six seven, eight; Inhale, two, three, four; Exhale, two, three, four, five six seven, eight; Inhale, two, three, four; Exhale, two, three, four, five six seven, eight;

Just keep going with that pattern and you will feel better shortly. Things like old threads getting resurrected will all of a sudden seem somehow less important...

Maybe take some of that internet cash and get a 90 minute relaxing full body massage...

Just be sure we bump this one or the other one in November of 2012. After all, the world may end a few weeks later, and it will be too late to prove ourselves ironic.

This trend seems to be kicking into high gear recently, and the posts I see are typically one-liners, i.e. they are just trying to get their post count up, and not really adding anything constructive to the thread.

I understand that when people subscribe here, they learn how to use the search function and this wonderful treasure trove information available to them, and viola, it can help with their particular problem, and there are some people do this innocent without knowing.

But I am with you there. There are those that are doing this deliberately ..Seems fishy.

    Hey Steven,

I noticed that - I wondered what was happening as I saw it was from 2008 and tpw had commented last but when I wondered why - the last post was from 2008 so it was a bit confusing.

It's funny how some people don't even realise - and think it's 'new' information. It just goes to show how somethings really don't change as much as people would have you believe

I've noticed the trend too. The other morning (Thursday, I think) it felt a bit like Groundhog Day in places on here. I have to admit, I don't always notice the dates but I do notice the names and faces of people who once posted regularly on here but haven't shown up in many months. A newcomer to the forum would not spot that.

Like others, I don't see anything wrong with old threads making a comeback if the info added is worthwhile, but if you encounter an old thread I think it's only polite to point it out so that others can take it into account when deciding on the validity of the information within.

      Good point.

Although one gets to wondering if, in many cases, the information contained in older posts could be far more relevant and factually correct than a lot of what is talked about in newer threads, these days - just due to the sheer volume of misinformation and unsubstantiated claims spread and made by people!

Popular or not, it's not only Steven's thread that are being bump here daily.
          It's gotten ridiculous.

Nothing wrong with bumping a thread at time when methods have changes or there are results to report.

These bumps are only to add a useless comment (and a sig link) and then other members start posting to the thread not realizing it's old and over.

Recently I saw members arguing strongly with the "original poster" - and that person hasn't been on this forum for a year. The thread was two years old.
Clearly, I didn't label those folks as the brightest bulbs in the hall...

            You're right there Kay.
The forum would be a much better place if bumping
            wasn't possible at all.

Good grief. The paranoia here is thick enough to serve with a fork.

What happened is this: Some link spammer posted to an old thread. Other people read it and started replying. Steven commented on the silliness of posting to old threads just for the links, and things got confused from there. He had nothing at all to do with bumping this back onto the first page.

The proper sequence for participation in a public forum is read first, then comment...
