Is IM making me blind?

I have been doing IM for just about 1 year now and as you all know to get anywhere you have to work hard and to me that means staring at my pc screen for hours on end every day.

I have seen quite a noticable decline in in my eyesight and was wondering if you guys have experienced something similar especially the warriors who have been doing this for years?

Cheers

    It may not be IM.

Let me ask you a few questions to see what the true cause may be.

Do you purchase a lot of lotion?
Do you go through tissues faster than normal?
Do you chafe in places where you should be wearing pants?

    I was only thinking it

Seriously, I've been getting eye strain lately from staring at a monitor for too long. You probably need to get away from that screen a bit and do some "eye exercises". If you were working in an office in a regular job you would be likely to spend less time than what you are now in front of the screen.

Eye-strain like this can happen from playing video-games ... its because your EYES dry out quickly because you are STARING at the screen for longer without blinking.

Just rub your eyes every 20 minutes properly and you should be fine, but working at a PC doesnt reduce eye-sight. Also, get a good flat-screen or TFT display, that helps increase the sharpness.

Exactly what I was about to say... I had started feeling problems in my eyesight and I just purchased this large LCD monitor and it is now OK.

I had to get glasses the other day for the first time and boy was I shocked at how bad my eysight has become over the last year. Anyways I'm not saying it's just because i'm an IM addict. Getting older, genetics and having light eyes surely plays a role but in my opinion staring at the screen for hours speeds it up a little.

I'll just start taking little vbreaks more often I guess.

The glare sure does not help.
My eyes used to feel drained after a set number of hours, so I got
a screen filter. It's literally a piece of 3MM plastic which sticks over the screen.

Reduces the brightness and the glare, my eyes feel alot "fresher" as a result.

Where can I get one of those?

I guess like many people here, I spend a lot of time staring at computer screens and have done for many years.

For the past couple of years I've had to wear glasses for some tasks, but I just put it down to my age.

I used to find the 'old' CRT screens were far worse for drying out your eyes. LCD's don't seem nearly so bad, but then they don't give out the same static etc.

I could never get used to screen filters - they just seemed to get in the way.

      Cheers,

I've always had terrible eyesight, but since starting IM my eyesight has gotten a lot worse.

I've been reading up on eye exercises and underpowered lenses and it's something I'm going to try in the near future. For now I just set a timer to remind me to take breaks from the PC.

staring at any one point of focus for a long time is not good for your eyes ... give your eyes breaks ... look around the room ... shift your focus ... do take breaks ...

and if your eyes get really sore then switch off the computer and take a break, go for a walk ...

of course, it could just be genetics etc ... but these are helpful for if its not, if its causing migraines etc.
