Hosting Really Large Digital Products

Hi All,

My first post here although I've visited and lurked in the past. I'm getting ready to launch my first affiliate product. I sell packages of Photo Textures, which are really large files. The zipped file will probably be around 250MB and I'll eventually have several products.

I'm trying to figure out where to host them though. I'm thinking of e-junkie, but they start getting expensive when you have a lot of files and they even admit that it would be cheaper to host large files yourself. I can't figure out where to do this though. My webhosting only allows files that are a part of your site, Dropbox has limits on file access - they are more of a synching service.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much

btw, my files are currently on my zenfolio site, where I can direct sale, but I don't think it would work for affiliate sales.

Many affiliates use Amazon s3 service which is really great one to deliver your files. This will be ideal option for you.

I agree with BloggerDeen, Amazon S3 is the way to go.

It is very inexpensive, you only pay for what you use.

For a few gigs of products and a few hundred people downloading them each month you are looking at only a few dollars a month or less, depending on where you are located at.

You will need a 3rd party 'tool' in order for you to get your products uploaded from your computer to the Amazon S3 account and I would recommend checking out Cloudberry Explorer. Head over to Cloudberry Lab and check out the freeware version, it has most everything you will need.

On the right side of the page you will see a link to some video tutorials on how to use the free software with your S3 account.

The fact that your customers will never experience any slowdown because there are several people accessing your files at the same time is a major plus in the 'Keeping Your Customers Happy' department.

      Hope this helps.

Excellent. That's what I needed to hear.

I wonder if there is a plug-in for Lightroom to export to Amazon S3? There well could be. That would be awesome if there is. I'll check out Cloudberry.

Really appreciate the help, both of you. I'm eager to get this going and was feeling held back not knowing how to solve this.

If you use firefox you can use the s3 plugin to upload.

I recommend to use amazon s3, they are great.
I've seen so many people also using their service.
And don't forget to close your bucket.
