Teen Internet Marketer Needs Help!

Im 14 and I have been trying to get going doing internet marketing. I first tried Ebay where I bought stuff for cheep and sold it for more, but that didn't bring enough money in . I began looking around at penny stocks now that could get you also alot of money, but they are often unpredictable and your money could either go 500 percent up or down. Therefore i moved on to affiliate marketing and have hit a roadblock. Whenever i try to tell people about my product they either don't have the money or accused me of spamming their inbox. All i need to know is what is a good way to get money using the internet.

This may seem a bit harsh but if you're not making money with affiliate marketing you're doing something wrong. With respect I'd recommend researching this forum for how to do it. I'd also recommend joining the War Room where you will get a lot of good and free advice.

they either don't have the money or accused me of spamming their inbox
Again, if they don't have the money why are they at your site? It also concerns me they accuse you of spam. How exactly are you going about promoting your affiliate offers?

That doesn't sit right with me at all! I don't do affiliate marketing really, and I don't make any money with it, so does that mean there is something wrong with my business model?

You know, maybe the OP's talents lie within product creation, or maybe the OP hasn't quite found the right market or product yet as an affiliate. There could be a myriad of reasons why the OP might not be making it as an affiliate. You can't just make that kind of a statement unless you know what's going on with someone's business. And you really won't know unless you get to know someone outside of this forum.

Thanks for your point of view Scrofford and my apologies it doesn't sit right with you.

You say you don't do affiliate marketing whereas the OP says he/she has "moved into affiliate marketing", so therefore the OP is doing affiliate marketing and in the OP's own words "has hit a road block", this indicates to me something isn't being done right. My point was based on two things...

        1) The OP is trying to make money in affiliate marketing but not succeeding. This tells me there is something not being done right. There is nothing wrong with this it simply means that the original attempt wasn't the correct way.

        2) The OP said this...

Whenever i try to tell people about my product they either don't have the money or accused me of spamming their inbox
My question was why are people coming to the offer with no money and why is the OP being accused of spam?

        You say..

You know, maybe the OP's talents lie within product creation, or maybe the OP hasn't quite found the right market or product yet as an affiliate. There could be a myriad of reasons why the OP might not be making it as an affiliate
Exactly, so he/she's doing something wrong otherwise he/she would be making money and not posting this thread.

I love to see young people getting involved in building businesses! Kudos to you, my friend.

People your age are in a way in a better position that older folks. The reason is because you don't have a mortgage, electric bill, or kids to support (at least I hope not).

You have the freedom to take things slow, learn as much as possible, and build a solid business that could fund your college tuition and beyond.

I suggest that you spend as much time learning as you can. In the meantime, you can learn some skills and offer your services to make some extra bucks. You can offer these services here or on a site like fiverr.com.

Stay motivated, stick to learning as much as you can, and most importantly... don't forget that you are 14! Don't get addicted to making money! Balance your life with learning IM, doing your homework, and picking up chicks!

Youre right to feel this way. This is a great mindset!

One quick word of advice, type professionally, even in the forum. I don't mean perfectly, I often post from my phone and things get messed up, but try to avoid the"text talk". These things become habits and slip in when writing emails and articles. I'm texan and I have to really watch myself. Casual is one thing, but things like cuz and b4 come out when you least expect it. I know...yall And ain't pop up for me too often!

      Best advice so far!

@OP: There is a learning curve to internet marketing and the ones who are trying to skip it are the ones who fail.

At 14 you have all the time in the world. You're obviously not desperate for money. I assume you get everything you need and your parents take great care of you.

It's great you have an entrepreneurial mind at such a young age. At that age I had a paper round like any other kid my age. So really thumbs up for wanting to start a business of your own.

Obviously if something is not working out... you need to find your faults, gain more knowledge and try to look for other methods or tweak the ones you're already using. Also take more of a professional approach... treat IM as a real business.

My recommendation is to look at www.challenge.co for basic internet marketing training, which is all free.

Best advice for someone new. When I first started it was a big learning curve cause all I knew was emailing, surfing the net and downloading the odd file here and there. I spent 4 months strait just learning EVERYTHING, making a few dollars here and there. Then one day I had one of those "AHA moments" and everything started to fall into place.

Good things come to those who are patient and are willing to work for it!

Take it slow - read up.

    Hers a quick guide:

    1. Open an account at listwire.com - List Wire - The world's best FREE Autoresponder!

CZ.CC cz.cc - Free Domain Registration + Free DNS Service.)

    000a (Link: Free Web Hosting - 000a.biz)

    They are all free.

Now, sign up at clickbank or a similar affiliate marketing site. Find a niche that intersts you. Then pick a product - pick carefully as the right products will rake in lots of cash but the wrong ones wont!

Buy the product through your affiliate link - this gets you a discount.

Read it and write a review on it in word.
Then find some testimonials by other people on the product and copy paste them into a separate word document.
Then write a little bit about the author in a third word document.
Save them all - Content done.

Now go to cz.cc and pick a domain - Get one that is a variation. If my product i was promoting was called Awesome Dog Care,Written by Larry Stephens and the domain was awesomedogcare.com - I would pick a domain of:

    awesomedogcare.cz.cc
    awesomedogcarereview.cz.cc
    awesomedogcareebook.cz.cc
    awesomedogcarelarrystephens.cz.cc
    larrystephensawesomedogcare.cz.cc

Then register the domain with 000a and use the fantstico to install wordpress. Find a wordpresss theme to install or contact me and i will design one and a logo for a small fee. (5$ - 10$)

Upload your articles and make the review sticky.

Now add a new page and link it to a page where people can sign up for a autoresponder sequence. (Do this with listwire.)

Now to drive traffic - Install the XML Sitemaps Plugin, the All In One SEO plugin, and then enable them all. This will get you in the google rankings.

You should have a page like the one in my sig (Cat page)

    Then create backlinks by:

    - Posting comments on blogs
    - Posting in forums
    - PPC (if you have the money)
    - Article Marketing

If at first you don't succeed, keep trying.
    You will prevail.

Free domains are just a way of getting money to buy .infos and proper web hosting.

I thought as he was just 14 he might not have any online accecible funds - so i told him the plan i used when i was 12. Its just a way to get people off their feet and to start making some money.

I make about 20 GBP a week with that site and another which pays for my other internet ventures - Web hosting and other stuff.

Of course i could expand it and take it to another level by making more domains and sites.

Olix1, correct me if I read this wrong, but it sounds like you signed up for an account at fiverr and used that to send affiliate offers to other fiverr account holders. If so, you spammed them, even if it was "just one or two messages."

I'm not a member there, but when I last looked, the site was for people to offer their services or post jobs they wanted done for them. Nowhere in that did I see "send people affiliate pitches".

Looking at it from another angle, what might have given you the idea that people looking to do small jobs for $4 (after the site takes their bite) might have the ready cash to buy an affiliate offer?

One of the tough things about starting as young as you are is that you are not able to enter into a legal contract. Unless you fib a bit (lie), you may have a tough time gaining hosting, domains, autoresponder services, etc.

As for penny stocks, or any other negotiable security, you're looking at that 'too young to sign a valid contract' thing again unless your parents or another adult will sign for you.

Oh, yes. That's a big no-no for Fiverr. In fact, you can't even entice people to contact you through a system other than their built-in one. No outside links, no Skype, no sign-ups and opt-ins.

OP, I suggest you try to make money on Fiverr by adding a gig. It should be a good start!

Affiliate marketing is touchy - you don't want to just spam your friends.. you can, of course, utilize social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn, but unless you have enough interested followers, these won't get you far.
You can try article marketing - basically where you write an article and post it on something like ezine or squidoo, and have it link to your site, which contains your product information.
This is a great way to get people who are actually interested in your product to see it! But be sure your articles are high quality and attention-grabbing (while not amateur-looking).. otherwise people might not read them.

Best of luck in your endeavors - I commend you for putting time and effort into this at such a young age!

I think you are going about your business the wrong way. You need somone to hold you by the hand and teach you the ropes. Unfortunately these days everyone want to make money off of someone. But there are still some good programs out there to do just that.

The first thing you need to do in this business is to build your list. I don't know if you have heard of the addage " The money is in the list". In order to do that you have to provide to your prospects something of value for FREE in order for them to opt-in you list. You should Keep providing constant value to your list member befor trying to sell anything to them.

Most internet marketers, I see on the internet, try to sell something first which is a recepe for failure.

I would advise you to be cautious about age limits of sites you sign up for. You can do long term damage to your IM potential if you lie to sites like paypal and adsense and other money sites that have age limits. Those consequences can be permanent even after you reach legal age. Most sites will allow younger users if they have parent/guardian permission.

Take the time to learn how things are done. You don't join Fiverr and then start messaging people with offers - that is spamming. Learn to fit into the communities you join online rather than only look at how to get money from them and you'll do much better.

Pay attention to younger marketers such as Caleb Spilchen here (who just turned 16) to see how they conduct themselves and set up their business to stay "legal".

The only way to make money online (for the long haul) is to build a responsive opt-in list to market your products or affiliate products to. The best way to do that is to get a PLR product and give it away to build your list. Then you can market to the list without fear of being a spammer!

    To your success!

How can you say that's the only way to make money online? There are tons of people who don't use an email list at all or use them sparingly and still make good money online.

Lists are good, but definitely not the only way to do it.

Well this has certainly been an interesting and some what controversial thread with so many different single themed opinions.

The fact is that you are young and I think the best advice given here is that you should spend your time learning a few skills that will establish you as an internet marketer.

Build yourself a website, start off with a Wordpress site, they are relatively easy to set up, look up as many tutorials on Youtube on Wordpress as you can, the plugins that are available, help your site function a bit easier.

You will then have to learn your traffic strategies, once you have enough QUALITY traffic coming to you site you will then be able to build a list of subscribers, Of which you will have to feed with quality content, only then will they be responsive to your personal recommendations.

In reality the money is Not in the list but in the relationship you have with your list....when they trust you then and then only will you make good money from that list.

So to sum it all up you must learn the trade, think of it as an apprenticeship, learn it properly and you will do very well.

There are many facets to internet marketing and many different ways on making money but to build a business that is for future security there are skills to be learned.

Take your time and do it properly, don't just be a marketer that looks to make a quick buck but be one that will establish himself as a force to be reckoned with....

        All the best....Peter

Being successful with internet marketing needs time and a lot of testing. In my point of view, this forum is the best place to find info how to start and what to do. I did the same.

Selling quality products, whether as an affiliate or your own, is a good way to get money on the Internet. If you're being accused of spamming people, you probably did not bother to build an opt-in list and you are just sending unsolicited spam to people. Not a good idea and a terrible business plan.

You need a plan that is more developed than just make money online. There's millions of you trying to do that. If you're not offering value to customers, get in line with the millions.

Who are you telling and how are you telling them?

It sounds like you're just throwing stuff on the wall to see what sticks. It looks as though you're doing a lot of random things in a desperate effort to make money, which usually does not work with internet marketing.

How exactly are you doing your affiliate marketing right now, and are you sending emails to clients who have expressed an interest in receiving more communication from you, or are you illegally scraping emails from somewhere? (it sounds like you are).

Awesome that you are so business minded at that age.

I recommend you do some research about everything IM. Soak it up like a sponge. You can never have too much knowledge and IM is no exception. By age 21 you could be a millionaire if you really apply yourself and keep your focus. Don't neglect school, I know too many people in High school that dropped out and have to go back now; even to get remedial jobs.

I will mention that youtube is a huge resource for anyone looking to make large amounts of money. I remember a girl that was 14 her name on there was meganheartsmakeup. I think she is 16 now and owns her own makeup line. She became rich in about 9 months on youtube, if I remember correctly. So there are some great success stories.

One other important thing I want to mention is that while online marketing is great you can double, maybe triple your profits by doing offline marketing, such as postcards, word of mouth, ect.

I've got good and bad news...

The bad news is it took me a little over two years before I started making good money online.

The good news is: 1) I'm dumber than most people. 2) You're 14. By the time you're 20 you could be sitting pretty.

My best advice is learn to do it right while you're young. If you're getting spam complaints you're not using a good method whatever it is...
