Don't just build a list... build a relationship.

I've been using Gmail for years and now with the priority in-box feature it makes even easier for folks never to see your email.

This should really hit home on how you're marketing to your list...

And other email clients are going the same route. "Smart email" which moves your emails up or down in the priority scale.

For example, if your subscribers reply to your emails you move up on the priority list.

A lot of emphasis is given on list building but just having a huge list to flog offers to every day (some even mail out more than once per day and is just crap) won't make you as much money as if you build a list of loyal subscribers.

And now with emails services like Gmail getting "smart" I really believe the churn & burn list building model is crap especially long-term.

Focus on building relationships and loyalty with your list vs. just adding more subscribers.

Totally agree. If just just pump out crap offers people will leave your list and buy very little. However, creating a relationship is not easy if you run several different niches. Its difficult to please everyone, but i guess after a while you learn what your list wants to stay hungry.

Without a doubt the best way to treat your list. Provide quality content for a number of days/weeks so that they really look forward to getting your emails, and then occasionally provide a link to a useful product.

I agree, all my lists are treated the same. I get as much interaction in with them as I can. I'll answer questions, send them lots of relevant information, do anything I can to provide them with what they signed up for.

I've been looking at the way a lot of the people whose mailing lists I'm on do things. Most seem to mail me "yet another wonderful solution by Mr/Mrs X" every other day. I think a lot of these people have very large lists and can afford to lose those that would like some relevant information they don't have to pay for each time (or they're just desperate for the sale). Thats fine by me but, as the right honourable Mr Says, says, in his private posts book, if the desires not there you can't sell them stuff. Trying puts them off. By giving them relevant info and not bombarding them with affiliate links, you can create the desire, they'll look forward to getting your emails and the priority inbox works in your favour....and not in your competitions.

People have always been smart. Pathetic sales pitches are so easy to pick out and identify. Humans have a sixth sense that allows them to detect BS, even if it is in print.

Now I only send my lists information that I personally find useful and if I find a tools that makes my job easier and potentially more profitable, I send that too. If I can send it as an affiliate, even better.

Either way, you have to be in it for the long haul. I have learned that these things do not happen over night, if at all, even if all the information you send is completely legit and scam free, which I work hard to make sure mine is.

My plan is to have an offer emails set up as an autoresponse for people to be sent X amount of days after joining the list. I will then send a daily email for relations purposes to everyone, so they hear from me in 2 emails atleast a day. If anyone emails me for any reason, I make it priority to answer them in a timely manner with a quality response. PR should be the main focus of any successful business venture.
