What niche would be best for me?

I've been working online now for several months and seem to be jumping about all over the place a bit. I am unsure exactly what niche to focus my efforts in. If I could tell you my experience and what I enjoy (my strengths) then I'm hoping that the experience that is in this forum could give me some real guidance and direction. I'm definitely not afraid of hard work but I just find online work quite different from offline:

Military background - 20 years
relationship counsellor - 3 years
career guidance - 8 years

I love writing, personal/self development etc but just can't seem to focus in one main area. I've written articles on lots to do with job hunting, interviews etc and also some on 'being the best we can be' i.e. through self development.

Should I be looking at creating my own products do you think and if so, does anyone have any suggestions. I'm a really hard worker but someone who's just lost their way a bit.

Thanks to anyone who can give me a steer and I promise to update you on progress I make based on your advice.

Thanks
Trish

I'd say writing and personal/self development are a good combination.
Why not try out the personal development niche. It may be competitive, but that doesn't mean you can't do well at it.

The key is to be able to write about something you know. In this case you shouldn't have a problem by the sound of it.
It's also vital to focus on one niche, and at least give it a full go without jumping around too much.

So start writing a few articles about self development. At the end of the article link to a site that allows visitors to get a free eBook or report in exchange for their email details. Then keep providing them good content through your emails, and occasionally a good link to a development product that you have used and enjoy.
That right there is all there is to internet marketing.

    Good luck!

I think with that type of background you could hit any of the 'big 3' niches: weight loss/ fitness, make money and relationships.

For now, pick one and concentrate on that. Find products, maybe from clickbank.com, to promote and post frequently to your blog.

Once you've gotten the basics down expand into another niche. You can do that as often as you want.

      Good luck

Thank you Bingo123, I appreciate your advice and I was thinking about personal/self development although I know there is lots of people working in it. I am going to have a look around, see what is out there in that niche and go for it and do something. I already wrote an ebook on 'how can I change my life' and this is on my facebook fan page so I may do something to send people there. Would that be a good thing to do Bingo? Thanks again and you were meant to answer this, the name Bingo has a special meaning for me. Thanks, Trish

Can I just say to you that have replied so soon, I truly am grateful and this is why the WF is THE best place to learn anything on the internet, I don't use it often enough but I will now. I hope one day to be able to help others as well. Thanks to 'tgro03' and 'oxbloom' - your answers have helped and maybe confirmed more than you'll know. And of course Bingo123 who came back first, I did a response to you before the other guys came on to help.

        Thanks to you all

        Trish

I think the personal development/life coach/be all you can be angle is probably your best bet, if you want to focus on something that's based off your life experience.

I could see myself potentially interested in an info-product that told me something like how...

"The military is the most ruthlessly efficient organization in the world at finding and developing TRUE WARRIORS...people with fire in their hearts, grit in their souls, and the ability to laugh in the face of adversity, no matter how high the stakes...and maximizing their potential while letting all the also-rans do the thankless grunt work.

Only one person out of a hundred has what it takes to rise above the rank and file, and for that special person, no upper limits will ever be set on just how high he can go. No resources will be spared in pushing his potential to its absolute limit. No goal is too high. No objective unreachable.

Let a 20 year military vet (*show resume highlights*) and professional career counselor show you the secrets that allow you to STAND OUT AS and BECOME that 1% Warrior...no matter what you do for a living."

    ...sort of thing.

Not quite sure what would be in there, but hell, sounds like a motivational read to me. If you can work in some kind of elite special forces angle, so much the better.

Looks like self development would be a great area for you – just choose an area to focus on within that niche.

Some options might be career help, help becoming emotionally strong and confident, help achieving your goals – whatever works best for you and gets you excited!

Thanks Devid, I've written a few articles in this niche but that is about it, I need to now turn those into making me some money I think. Thanks for taking the time to come back, Trish

    Hi Trish,

As I have learned that there are two main things about choosing a niche.
    1. Market Research
    2. Your Passion

But to put that into practise as a real business, number 2 overrides number 1 because if you do not have a passion for something, no matter how hard you try, you effort will fade.

As for your experience, I would suggest that you should go for personal development ( and DO NOT forget, it is one of the niches which covers ALL other niches, it is a massive niche.. a few of my IM friends are in this niche and making a v.good money)
    Thanks.
    Ron.
