Go Article got 9,000 views in 1 week. How did this happen?

I just noticed an article on Go Articles directory that was published on 11/22/2010, and it has been read nearly 9,000 times, according to GoArticles stats. I read it and it is mediocre, blatantly promoting vitamins and a vitamin site. The Signature Box only has one link and isn't anything special or unusual. I want to know how a mediocre article gets nearly 9,000 reads in a few days. I started article marketing 3 months ago and I want to know, what is it I don't know?

  • Hi Carolyn,
I know where you coming from and it is strange enough to get 9,000 views in just a week. I do article marketing myself.
One possible reason could be that this person is promoting this article itself on other websites or social media which gets vast exposure.
And considering this article is on goarticle not even on ezinearticles(which is the best), it is highly unlikely that this article itself is getting soo much views but again it could be rich with high searched keywords or summin..

    • They may have used some service like below. I wouldn't recommend
it, but these services are available, though I don't know if they
      are effective or not.

xxxxxxxxx will provide 50,000 Guaranteed and Safe EZINE article views for $25

  • I don't know why people do it, surely a quick look by the moderators on whether the page is ranking or not and where the source of traffic is coming from would give it away.

And all either to get on the most viewed page or to promote some scam product stating they know how to get 'x' amount of views.

Doesn't beat a great ranking article, a social media sucking article or any of the sort that drives thousands and hundreds of thousands.

Much better when it happens to your own website though xD the stories I have read with people hoping they would get on the front page of digg or something and then not being ready for it and the surge of traffic taking down their webserver and an angry message from their host.

Surely if they thought they could achieve it they would have prepared xD

Anyway I've gone slightly off topic!
  • There's a reason why people do it. I do agree 9k per week seems like an overkill but getting on the most viewed page certainly has its benefits. It belongs to the dark side though aka BlackHat.
  • You can manipulate these sorts of things or it could be that he has promoted this article as well on various places....
  • If you take a look at sites such as elance.com and similar you will often see people posting jobs for others to click on their articles, etc. It obviously pays to have an article ranked highly.
  • You should not need to worry about such things... as long as you are making money with your articles, does not matter if other article gets more views...
  • using proxies and automated software to bump up the views to get on the most viewed page probably.
  • scrapebox baby
  • Probably trying to get in the most viewed category, can be achieved by multiple pinging and scrapebox. Or as said above paying people to visit.

  • Probably, the views are faked. I dont know, and Im not sure but 9000 views in a single week is too much and kinda unbelievable unless the topic is super hot/in trend.

    • Has anyone ever received over 1000 views in their first week after submitting a new article to ezine articles, goarticles or any other article directories?

  • Sometimes it can be legit, one time I posted some content on a social bookmarking site and got over 7000 visitors to my site in one day. To this day I do not know why it happened or how it happened, because my bookmark was not shown in search engines. The content itself was something I did not put that much thought into, I was able to make several hundred dollars that day. I have not been able to replicate it sense.
  • What are ligitamate ways you can boost the views of your articles? If you have a list is sending an email to your list asking them to check out your ezine articles (or whatever) article an ok thing to do?

    • Sure, it's really no different than emailing them and letting them know you've got a new blog post on your own site. As long as the article's quality is good, this can work well.

  • I sense foul play especially when you said its on Go Article, may be some black hat method was adapted to get that kind of view in a week.

    • Hi Carolyn,

There are several possibilities as to how that person got so many views. The article could have gotten featured on one of the top pages of Go Article.

The author is probably doing self promotion.

The author could have a large reader base.

The author could be paying to send traffic to the articles.

The author could be a genius that was able to make all of us think that it was just a plain article, but actually it is quite amazing.

Whatever the secret is there is no way to know unless you actually get in contact with the person who wrote the article.

    • I know it is worth it. In the Wedding MC niche, some dude did it for his article a year and a half ago - has 50, 000 views...it comes up top three google every day, every time someone types in Wedding MC. That has got to be worth it.
  • It is certainly not impossible to have an article receive 9000 views in a week.

I haven't had any promotional articles do that, but...

Non-promotional articles I have written have done that (well once lol).

My father writes articles that he promotes through twitter, and he regularly breaks 10,000 readers in his first week. Ironically he doesn't promote anything in them, and just does it for the love of writing them. I have tried to bring him to the dark side, but so far he has no interest.

If you want a readership like that you need to work the social-networking sites, and build a fan-base. Or you could just send fake traffic, but I don't really see the point in that.

    • Maybe your dad should put together a ebook on Twitter. I say this because I have yet to have any success with promoting on Twitter. I would love to learn the secrets though.
